The US media is terrible about so many things, but reporting on domestic violence is pretty high on that list. Everything is euphemism: beating up a romantic partner is often "erratic behavior," regular humiliation is something like "aggressive tendencies," etc.
Of course, the disproportionately high rates of domestic violence perpetrated by cops is virtually never mentioned.
That's pretty much how it's been going with respect to David Michael Brouillette, the ICE agent who murdered Johan Sebastian Duran Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine, earlier this week. Brouillette is a US Army veteran and a cop, and it's now been revealed publicly that he has a documented track record of extreme domestic violence that includes the reckless, threatening use of firearms.
This is the first story I've seen that extensively quotes Brouillette's ex-wife. She is not only telling this story publicly now, but has apparently been trying to do so for years, only to be dismissed as a bitter ex.
Brouillette called her on Wednesday to ask her not to talk publicly about his history of violence and domestic abuse or to only say nice things about him. She courageously told him that she was "not going to lie for him."
So here's some of what she did say:
In 2022, he threw his then-13-year-old daughter through a glass coffee table. Both the local police and Child Protective Services were called, so this is well documented.
"He hit me, choked me, and there was an incident, we had been fighting and I walked away and I got in the shower and he comes in with a gun and points it at me and tells me that he's going to blow my brains all over the bathtub."
Last November, after his ex-wife filed a restraining order, he left her a voicemail in which he very calmly said "Do I think that you should have your fucking throat cuts? Or should have had them cut? Yep." His tone of voice sounds like he's giving his opinion on which shade of curtains he'd prefer to have in the living room.
She reported this stuff to his commanding officer in the National Guard, and she wasn't taken seriously. This report doesn't say anything specific about anyone else she tried to report him to, but she does say that she told others, and obviously nothing seems to have gotten through. ICE hired him earlier this year.
So now you've seen it, and when other news outlets talk down his past -- or gloss over the fact that so many of the people who "serve and protect" us are violent abusers -- you will know they're lying.

Het APK-bestand dat ik zojuist downloadde wordt door slechts 1 van 62 virusscanners als kwaadaardig herkend (aldus https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/cef6bec583bd2d2372115c1627e78918b60900d2bd823c890bac4ce4be4194b2).
Minstens elf subdomeinnamen van "googleplay-app.cc" verstoppen zich achter proxy-servers van Cloudflare (bron: RELATIONS tabblad van https://www.virustotal.com/gui/domain/googleplay-app.cc) - waarbij notabene een https website-certificaat van "Google Trust Services" wordt gebruikt.
Genoemde hoofdomeinnaam samen met "*.googleplay-app.cc" krijgen al sinds 26 december 2023 certificaten van Google en van Let's Encrypt (bron: https://crt.sh/?q=googleplay-app.cc).
Het kan Big Tech niks schelen als mensen hier intrappen - sterker, het is hun verdienmodel.

" ――被害者の訴えが裁判所に届かないと感じたケースはありますか。2011年に民法に離婚後の親子の「面会交流」が明文化され、「原則実施」すべきものと扱われて、無理な面会が取り決められるケースが相次ぎました。
例えば、母親が「夫から性的DVを受けていた」と申告していたケースでは、夫が子どものスカートをめくったり、子どもの面前でひわいな言葉を言ったりすることもあったので、母親は当初から面会交流に反対していました。それでも、家裁は「子どもは父親には懐いているから」と定期的な面会交流を取り決めました。
数年後、子どもが小学校の先生に「面会が嫌だ」と訴え、子どもが面会交流中に性的虐待を受けていたことがわかりました。母親は、最初から虐待の恐れがあることを訴えていましたが、それを誰も聞き届けず、子どもを深く傷つける結果を招きました。

" 離婚しても父親と母親が子どもに関わり続け、親としての責任を果たすという理念は、一見すると良いことのように思えます。対等な話し合いができる関係性の夫婦が、離婚後の共同親権に合意するケースにのみ認めるということであれば、誰も反対していません。問題なのは、そうではないケース、つまり、単独親権か共同親権かを話し合って決めることすら難しい父母に、家庭裁判所が共同親権を命じることができてしまう制度になっていることです。
特にDVや虐待があった家庭では、被害者が加害者からいつまでも逃れられなくなることが強く懸念されます。
――法律では、DVや虐待のおそれがある場合は必ず単独親権にすると定められています。
条文通りに運用されるのであれば問題はありません。でも、家裁が本当にそれを見極めることができるのかどうか、わかりません。
