  1. I found this post about mastodon on Mastodon(!) Mastodon were cousins to elephants & wooly mammouth, and lived among hoo-mans 13K years ago (relatively recently). NY state is home to 150 mastodon fossil discoveries, w/ 1/3 in Orange County, where these teeth etc were found.

  2. my free trial with #wooly ended and it’s safe to say I kinda miss it. #mastodon

  3. This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #magdeburg #unicorn

Yes this is an #april #fool post, as this is technically not an animal, but still a notable piece of history.

In 1663, a partial fossil of a #Wooly #rhinoceros was found. Otto von Guericke, a Prussian naturalist, not knowing about extinction or anything like that, concluded the fossils belonged to the mythical Unicorn, and recreated them as shown below.

This display can still be found in the Museum of Natural History Magdeburg.

  4. I hate to admit that I may have been sleeping on #Wooly for iOS.

It was just updated a few hours ago so I thought I would give it a spin.

  6. Lining up a new project for this year's Wooly Fair in Providence, which will likely be a massive (8' tall?) pixelated lamb where each pixel is a discrete LED panel (3"x3" or so), perhaps touch-sensitive for color changing. This should be a fun one!

  7. CW: Best Mastodon clients on iOS / ipadOS...

Hi all - I've been experimenting with #MonaForMastodon (beta release on testflight for the moment) - as well as many of the leading contenders on iOS - #Ivory #IceCubes #Wooly #Mammoth - for a couple of months now.
FWIW, for my use on iOS, #Mona is presently the best of the lot - in both UI tuneability and in practical use. Give it a go and let me know what you think?

  8. @KingShawn @Ciantic Well, I do prefer lists because they retain context and/or people I _really_ want to read. I dip into the main timeline, but after 200 follows it’s just too much context switching to read in sequence, and I miss things.

Lists by topic (or groups of friends) help me keep track of things much better (I’m now using #wooly, which lets me swipe between lists on the iPad, and it is a godsend).

  9. @dansup
Hi Dan - I'm experimenting with #Pixelfed accessed via various Masto clients - #icecubesapp #Tooot #Wooly amongst others, but only #MonaBeta and #Ivory will allow me to log in to my pixelfed a/c without getting a "419-Page Expired" error... And only #Ivory will allow me to post photographs.
Is there an API issue with Pixelfed?... And is there any chance you'd be able to fix from your end?
Many thanks for a great federated photography community app!

  10. Something I didn’t expect with @Mastodon is that I’d keep using + enjoy using multiple #iPhone clients to interact with it. Big shout out to @ivory, and also @tootapp, plus #Wooly by @mttvll. Each of them is a great #ios app on their own both in quality and form but also they have lovely subtle differences in how I interact with my #mastodon timeline. I like the distinctions a lot.

So here’s a big shout out to this app ecosystem. Thank you!

  11. Trying to find a nice iOS Mastodon client, I’ve been testing #Wooly and #Mammoth and they are both very promising. There are different things that don’t work for me at the moment but I’m sure they will be fixed before they’re on App Store.

Huge shoutout to @mttvll and @mammoth, the guys are doing a wonderful job.

I just wanted to say that you should try both, it’s worth it!

  12. @mttvll Hi #Wooly! As we can’t wait to have Wooly published to the public. Do you have on your roadmap of implementing #accessibility into Wooly? The visually impaired community would greatly appreciate if you would include accessibility with #VoiceOver for Wooly. Unfortunately, currently Wooly is difficult to use. Hope that you would consider including improvements in that area of Wooly! Thank you for your hard work.

  13. 4 hours ago I gave feedback that a favorites selection would be essential for the language picker in a Mastodon app (seriously, why isn't this standard?) and now it's implemented in his test build.

I think #Wooly will be my favorite app soon. Direct communication with the dev is so important and I just don't get this with #Ivory.

  14. @mttvll never used timeline filtering options in Fenix not I won‘t do it in #wooly

  16. My attempts to try out just a few #Mastodon apps and figure out which one I like best escalated rather quickly … #ivory #icecube #metatext #toot #tusker #wooly #tootle #tooot

  17. Amazing times for the #Fediverse! I’ve been toying around with almost all available #Mastodon apps - also those in beta on TestFlight.

Even though #Ivory has a great roadmap of upcoming features and #Wooly (TestFlight) has a great zen-like interface, I currently ended up with #IceCubes - couldn’t find any function not implemented and I love the feature to add local timelines of other instances (it could use a more basic app icon though but that’s a matter of taste).

  18. To my fellow #Wooly beta testers: Is it just me or are verified marks not showing next to your website(s) on your own profile? They do show on other profiles though.

  19. Just downloaded the #wooly TestFlight beta and I’m really impressed with the polish and speed of the UI. Everything feels super familiar and easy to use. Great job @mttvll!! 👏

  20. Minutes after installing #Wooly and I think this is my new favorite client (for now.) It immediately feels comfortable because it looks and feels a lot like the first-party Twitter client (which was all I ever used for that site), and aggregated notifications were something I didn't realize I missed until Wooly gave them back.

I also like that there's not a ton of functionality hidden behind long-pressed, that can make an app feel like a minefield sometimes.

I never would have guessed that Mastodon would end up with so many polished choices for client apps on iOS ✨
