The Witch Lights have achieved their final and best physical form! Last week the magical and very slightly cursed will-o-wisps invaded a small town on a hill in Vermont.
The installation was a huge success, and happily validated a new hardware design that radically simplifies installation and breakdown. And which also incorporates forged, cold steel stake hardware. Because the Fair Folk are attracted to loose magic. Like ants.

Over the weekend, my partners and I finished getting the main body pieces and lights assembled for the light up cloud. I'm super pleased with how it's coming out - it's pretty much what I was envisioning (cloud design done by Allie).
Up next is finalizing the part assembly with VHB, routing the wires, and adding a frame so it can be mounted vertically. #ledart

I'm feeling really good about my new LED art project. This is a collab with my partner Allie who did the illustration/vectors for the cloud. It'll have LEDs going under both layers, and then white opaque vinyl on top to give it a crisp edge and hide the coroplast ribs.
Per usual, this was designed in #inkscape and the inner layers were computed from that using #OpenSCAD.

Getting to be friends (and collaborators) with super talented makers has some nice bonus benefits! In addition to the gorgeous Fibonacci heart pendant, @jasoncoon sent me a flexible PCB he designed and assembled (!) that has 128 tiny addressable LEDs laid out in a Fibonacci pattern, along with the vector file to cut out a faux leather cover. The whole assembly looks truly stunning in cuff bracelet form.

Built a hacky model so I could better visualize the 'pixels' of the sheep, and the wiring that will live within.
I'm thinking that I could hang individual LEDs in the middle of each section, and have it display on both sides. #LED friends, do they make individual neopixel LEDs that are in the bulb form? I saw some at Adafruit but would prefer not to pay a dollar a bulb.

Lining up a new project for this year's Wooly Fair in Providence, which will likely be a massive (8' tall?) pixelated lamb where each pixel is a discrete LED panel (3"x3" or so), perhaps touch-sensitive for color changing. This should be a fun one!

Orb-ification of LED cube is underway. The four matrices in the body are now covered with their 3D printed shells, and just the lid matrices are left to complete. My son said it looks like the Death Star, which made me happy, but also has me on the alert for tiny, low flying rebel spacecraft.
