Another one finished! I could use some help with a name for it. It's an eyeball. The outside is dark American Walnut, representing the natural world. The inside is a circuit board, representing technology. I don't think it is too far fetched that people will have cybernetic eyeballs in the coming decades. The idea of a cybernetic eyeball is what inspired this piece. Most of the components on the pcb are for looks, but there's a string of ws2812 leds that I designed to look like Ethernet link lights.

I’m really excited to share a piece of art that’s been two years in the making. I call it Algorithmic Precipitation.

The piece is built from a custom printed circuit board. In the top copper layer is a city intersection, with a woman crossing the street. An everyday moment from a future that hasn’t quite arrived yet.

Across the scene, a downpour of small green raindrops falls from the sky, rendered using a grid of WS2812-2020 LEDs controlled by an ATmega328PB microcontroller. Two white LEDs occaisionally flash like lightning. A single amber LED mimics a failing streetlight.

The work is an exploration of what a post-singularity world might look like, where the boundary between the natural world and technology has blurred, and both are part of the same evolving system.

I was just talking last night to someone about how, from a #cybernetic perspective, "#GenAI" is absolutely toxic. It can radically increase variety (it can generate plausible threat reports) but it can't decrease variety (you can't actually use it to filter out its own slop).

LLMs are set up to destroy modern society. It will not ever find a way to manage this complexity because it doesn't have enough complexity to even recognize the problem.

One of the things that people really don't understand is how #cybernetic relationships work, which is why anyone argues over the phrase "guns don't kill people".

Creating art through #StableDiffusion is exploring a high dimensional vector space for a vector that is close to what's desired.

This is also how "custom perfume" is made. Single notes are mixed in different proportions. The dimensions is equal to the number of single notes, and each index is set to the desired ratio.

Perfuming, even with a limited set of single notes is art. #AIArt isn't actually different.

But the #AI isn't making art. AI is _incapable_ of making art. The reason you can, effectively, always tell that AI art is made by AI is because it doesn't assign any meaning to any of the objects in the scene. It doesn't understand them.

What we do find is that most AI Art is just bad art. It's derivative, boring, and largely hallow.

But consider what Gucci did for their ad. They:
1. Took actual photos with a model
2. Used the photos as the baseline for the AI Art.
3. Did post production in photoshop.

Now, there's a ton of reasons to find this concerning and not like it; there's a ton of reasons to dislike "AI Art" generators. However, it's flatly absurd to say that the outcome of that didn't come through an artistic process.

Okay, so what does this have to do with cybernetic relationships?

To extract isolated thoughts as both perfect and imperfect voices. And they connect the dots depending on...

To produce fake conversations, fake recordings, fake interviews, fake interrogations, fake confessions.
