The #1 thing u learn about soldiering is: always use rosin flux

My #soldering skills have, um, improved dramatically in the time since I bought this #Arduino motor shield.

Soldering is hard but worth it. Customers photo printed dot grid journals with good paper are improved by adding a charm to the ribbon! #customizingart #soldering #jewelry #bujo

I am hard choosing #Pinecil or Alientek T90A.
They are ≈ $54.5, $51.5, with 3 tips respectively.
T90A has c210 tips(seem to be cheaper) It has a cylindrical cap for the tip, so it is safe to carry.
Also comes with USB C cable. But Pinecil v2 is OSHW, FLOSS.
I will be doing probably some modules, PCB, perfboard, not thick wires soldering. Occasional micro soldering to hack devices.
T90 has N32L403 MCU.
Maybe it is an opportunity for me to develop :rust: PAC and HAL for this MCU.
There are official datashits and C code.
Also community made iron schematic. But this will take a lot of time, I am already kind of busy with school, robotics, math. Reverse Engineering is addictive.
What would you choose in my place?

I just started this video and I think it's safe to say this person is my new hero

I was delighted to repair my portable recorder: a cheap plug had broken off at the XLR input. I had to take the whole thing apart. It was a very stressful moment when I tore off the copper-coated insulating tape and desoldered the XLR plug, but I managed to sort it out.
[EDIT] You can find parts in France and europe here : https://www.audiotronic.eu/ (I buyed 2 modules just in case)

I did a thing! 😁
I know some of them look pretty bad but for my first (real) project that required soldering I think I did alright!

It's always nice when the #soldering job works out on the first try.

USB wiring question:
this small usb-micro pcb has four surface mounted components. C1 C2 and L1 and L2. There's also a empty slot for a component labeled ESD1. The only output for this pcb is 5v to feed into a lighting strip.
What does this pcb do?

ATtiny Punk Console #soldering #workshop today from 22:30 at #emfcamp Hardware Hacking Area.
This easy to build 8Bit fun machine can be a drum or bass #synthesizer, a laser gun sound generator, an extended Atari Punk Console, a 4-voice drone synth or go really crazy with the Random Ticker or Failure Unit. I also have a few LFO and Keyboard kits to start a small modular system with this.
Check out from 9pm in front of the tent. -
The 1st noisio #synthesizer #soldering #workshop at #emfcamp will start on Thursday from 8:30pm. We will focus on the 10-voices Levitation OSC drone synth, but every other one can be built in parallel, since technically they are very close.
https://www.emfcamp.org/schedule/2026/411-levitation-osc-drone-synthesizer
Come along at Hardware Hacking Area in the (1..2) hours before to check out the sounds >>

@Athena Maybe try EA Sales (www.easales.com). He comes to a lot of ham swap meets around here and always has a big booth at Dayton. I've purchased from them in the past. #hamradio #soldering

Disturbing revelation yesterday: my encroaching presbyopia is starting to interfere with my soldering ability. I think it’s time to get a good USB/video microscope. #electronics #soldering

If anyone has an #Omnifixo S2 (specifically the smaller 90x90mm) model sat around in a drawer gathering dust, I would be happy to exchange pennies with you for it. Neither the larger size nor clones don't quite fit my use case. #soldering

Hubris: the act of turning off the soldering iron without checking whether the soldered item works.

Heres a #maker tip tipperoo..
When you are soldering dupont pins on to components, plug it all into a breadboard then solder to keep things lined up, square, and straight.
-
I don't do #electronics very often. When I only need a one-off, I don't bother designing a PCB. I just use a perfboard and some tiny wires.
I've got a bag of these wires, and they are great. I think the insulation is Teflon and they don't shrink when you solder them.
However, I've never found a good way to strip them. I usually just use my fingernails, but that stretches the insulation, which makes them shrink after all when I solder them.
Do wire strippers exist for such tiny wires?

It's sonic! Totally sonic (cleaning)!

Settling the Debate on Soldered versus Crimped High-Current Connectors
-
Well, that’s all we have for this board. Everything seems to test for continuity but the real test is when the headers arrive (yes, I ordered the wrong gender pins ha!)
-
So, update on my #soldering.
I screwed up a part; pulled off a trace.
Luckily, I have magnet wire, and a will to fix…
-
Yesterday, I was screaming at plumbing, after a pinhole in our well water feed developed.
IT took three trips for parts to really fix it, and a new trip is planned for fresh insulation.
Today, I taught myself to drag solder. I’ve never had to solder anything more complex than a small SOT transistor before.

(Either I'm mentally recovering from last week, or I'm just flitting between small projects today like a bumblebee that found some spilled caffeinated soda.)
I designed a working "Control Card" for a Hakko FP-102 Soldering Station, which is required in order for the station to start heating up and accept changes to the temperature setting.
It's still a good soldering station, 20 years on, so this might help others of you as well as me.

Our Bluetooth sound panel was getting buggy, so one motivated member rebuilt it from scratch using our electronics stock. The new MuMaLab Control Panel has soldered connections, industrial-grade buttons, a logarithmic fader and a sturdy TRS aux input. No more crackling, no more loose connectors.
