Some thoughts on the #Analogue3D:
It is very cool and sleek hardware (see my terrible photo with my original #OcarinaOfTime module) and can be a lot of fun if you want to have a mostly authentic #N64 experience on modern FullHD or 4K screen.
There are a lot of things to consider if you are willing to invest so quite a bit of money into this console:
- Despite being a #FPGA device the system is not open, so no #OpenFPGA in the future which would you allow other to #misterFPGA cores/systems (open alternatives: misterFPGA, #M64 and the #SuperStationOne).
- Some promised stuff is missing such as save states and play time recording.
- The official controller has to be bought if you don't plan to use an original N64 controller. the Wireless NSO N64 by Nintendo controller is not compatible.
- The official #8BitDo controller does not correctly emulate an N64 controller which can be problematic in certain scenarios involving the C buttons.
- Butchered PAL versions with less FPS /slowdown etc are still butchered.
- A few games do have compatibility issues (which are being worked on).
- HDMI-CEC support is broken and hasn't been fixed for weeks.
- Analogue seems to fulfilling orders in a quite random sequence.
- The integrated fan can be quite annoying/loud, especially for people sensitive for highly pitched noises.
- Don't forget about import taxes.
- No bluetooth audio, so your partner can "enjoy" the Yoshi Story soundtrack with you.
- Maybe emulation is good enough for you? 🤷
- Flash carts do at this work, just get/build a #SummerCart64. Emulators written for N64 hardware emulating other system do not work though.

Hmm, is there a means to run ROMs created with #GBDK2020 directly on #AnaloguePocket without using a 3rd-party GB/C/A core?
I know I can use any of the OpenFPGA cores on GitHub that I'd otherwise use to run ROM backups but for some reason I'd love to use the built-in cores that are normally used to run physical cartridges.
I briefly stumbled across .pocket files and #GameBoyStudio support but didn't get a lot of details and the impression that those are fairly limited compared to native ROMs.

Huh. Microchip started adding a 32 LUT FPGA to some PICs. Mark Omo decided to see how it is configured and found they internally use Yosys. Full RE details: https://mcp-clb.markomo.me/

If you're still using the spiritualized1997 #OpenFPGA GB and SGB cores for Analogue Pocket I'd recommend switching to Budude2's MiSTER port. It's open source, actively developed and includes features like SGB palettes without displaying the border

Ok. I know I’m super late to the party, but holy shit is the Analogue Pocket amazing. Whether playing portable or docked to the tv, it has easily been the most beautiful and responsive way to play my retro collection. Now I just need a link cable in hopes of friends picking one up as well!
Gonna be singing its praises for quite a while, I suspect-

I've made some "first/next steps" issues in my #AppleII #OpenFPGA #AnaloguePocket core repo if any more-experienced #FPGA / #Verilog / #Apple2 / #MiSTerFPGA devs would like to take a look and contribute: https://github.com/ryanfb/Apple-II_openFPGA/issues

#RetroGames #atari #lynx #openFPGA
Picked up an #AnalogPocket recently so I could play all my old #AtariLynx carts. It's amazing that the #fpga in this thing can be used to recreate all the electronic hardware of these old systems and run them exactly like the original. It's definitely a step up from software emulation.

@didier random #openFPGA development question - if I'm modifying clocks just from the source code with no Quartus GUI, the "source of truth" I need to modify is just e.g. core/mf_pllbase/mf_pllbase_0002.v, right? http://openfpgatutorials.org/docs/openFPGA-FAQ#can-i-use-any-clock-rate (found this to be one of the most confusing parts of getting started)

I figured out today the most nerdy way to get mobile access to signal tapping via jtag on my MacBook.
I can bring my Windows mini-pc in my backpack, direct plug it via usb-c/Ethernet into my MacBook and share the MacBook’s wifi via the Ethernet cable.
Plug the jtag blaster cable into the mini-pc, plug the #AnaloguePocket via the jtag connector and Remote Desktop into the PC to run Quartus signal tap.
It just works 🤗 and it’s somewhat portable.

Another full day of debugging and understanding more and more about the ‘Right Way™’ to do things in #Verilog and…boom! 💥
My gfx chip is now working correctly based on the 4 registers it exposes. I still don't have a working CPU yet but this is using a little FSM to drive the chip.
This is so much fun…

👾 Just posted pf-dev-tools v1.0.6:
✅ Fixed a bug in argument parsing for pf clone.
✅ pf install and pf eject now take full paths for volumes.
✅ Added support for PF_CORE_TEMPLATE_REPO_FOLDER to use local core template directory.
✅ Improved some documentation in README. -
👾 Just posted pf-dev-tools v1.0.5:
✅ Added better user feedback when docker image needs downloading.
✅ Renamed Environment to SConsEnvironment.
✅ Added an automatic check for when updates are available.
✅ Improved the way some error messages are displayed. -
Introducing pf-dev-tools 🎉
This is the toolchain I put together to build and package my fantasy console core on the pocket. It's entirely Python-based thanks to SCons which is built in.
Super simple Makefiles. One line core building/packaging/installing. Did I mention Python?
Anyway, it's also used in the sample code for the openFPGA tutorials.

:analogue: Analogue Pocket Firmware 1.1 is out! 🎉
Some bug fixes and a few new APF bits and bobs but also a new “Original GBA” screen mode.

Hardware sprites, ultra-mini Copper, LFSR star field… I‘ve learned a lot so far. Next stop, reading data over the APE and interfacing with a couple of different types of RAM.
Oh working over different clock domains too!!
