Most politicians are good people. I hope I was one of those.
Commentary by Fiona Patten (who I'm really going to miss).

Victorian Liberals to seek out younger voters as their base shrinks fast.

Objectively, I think Victoria's donations system is unfair.
The rules allowed the old parties to 'grandfather' their wealth and prevented new parties and independents from establishing competitive campaign funds.
That's not to suggest that allowing a free-for-all is the solution.

Former MP mulls legal action over Victoria’s political donations cap.

Vic Matters of State podcast.
Where do political parties get their money from?

Victorian Upper House results give left of centre parties 22 of 40 seats, one more than previously. Two of those seats went to Legalise Cannabis. It'll be interesting to see if any deals on that issue are needed to ensure passage of other legislation.

For several weeks I've been passing this corflute at a distance and presumed it was for the Legalise Cannabis Party.
With Fiona Patten being defeated and Legalise Cannabis on an estimated three seats (up from none) in the upper house, I can't help but wonder if this particular campaign strategy was ill-advised.
Upper house estimated totals: https://www.abc.net.au/news/elections/vic/2022/guide/lc-results

I'm very disappointed to see Fiona Patten has been excluded in the latest estimate for the Victorian upper house.
She has conceded defeat per news story here: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-12-12/fiona-patten-concedes-defeat-in-vic-election/101760620

CW: Hype for 'freedom' parties but none for more popular Socialists?
Victorian Socialists performed much better than 'freedom' parties at the election, but I can't recall any media coverage about them?
Laverton - Victorian Socialists polled fourth at 6.4%. https://www.abc.net.au/news/elections/vic/2022/guide/lave
Kororoit - Victorian Socialists polled third at 6.7%, ahead of the Greens! https://www.abc.net.au/news/elections/vic/2022/guide/koro
They did well at inner-city districts, too, but fewer 'freedom' parties to compare against.

Woohoo, looks like I got my wish and we turned my electorate Green for the very first time. So very happy about that. What's more, our northern neighbour looks to become Green as well - woo-double-hoo!! Well done to Campbell Gome and all the volunteers. #vicelection #greens #climateactionnow

I voted in a state election for the first time since becoming an Australian citizen. I really hope we can turn Richmond green, so we can have a better chance at #ClimateAction #vicelection

It's election day in Victoria! Here's what the Greens have proposed, and it's sure to polarise voters. Good policies IMO. #vicelection

CW: Shaun Gilchrist- warning contains sensitive issue- Politics- Narracan Vote cancelled.
Shaun Gilchrist, National Candidate for Narracan has “unalived” himself days before the final Victorian election.
Gilchrist was to face court ruling on 30th November in relation to “alleged” three charges of rape and sexual assault.
As a voter in the seat of Narracan, I’m mighty pissed that Shaun Gilchrist was on the ballot paper full stop!
Matthew Guy can’t deny he knew about such serious matters, how the hell did the Vic Electoral Commission let this candidate through?
It states clearly the rules. “National party rules in Victoria, a nominee is required to sign a statement that they are a “fit and proper person” & disclose any information that might be relevant whether the nominee could be disqualified from becoming or continuing to be a member of parliament if elected.”
Matt Guy refused to answer questions about Gilchrist.
Guy said “he was confident no other Coalition candidates were facing criminal charges.”Matthew Guy is full of SHIT! He knows every dirty secret in his associations.
As a result the Narracan votes have been set aside and a future by-election is to be held at a date to be decided.

CW: Know of any minor party summaries for the Victorian State Election?
Who has a good rundown of the minor parties in the Victorian state election?
I’ve just received my postal ballot and I have no idea which of these parties are good and which have policies like “Save the environment (by feeding puppies to the Glippering Yarglon, All Hail)”.

CW: Auspol
I’m now the second place candidate for Western Metro for the Vic state election for Reason.
Happy to support David Thirkettle Watts, one of the kindest people I’ve met in a party of very kind people. His passion for public housing, outcomes based health, public education, and a self determination based First Nations approach makes him a great person to push the Andrews Labor government to do better.
https://www.reason.org.au/david_thirkettle_watts_for_western_metro
As always I want to say, voting is not where the most important changes are made, while I have a lot of criticism for our government structures the system won’t be changed by voting so we may as well vote in good people, and even if you like Labor voting minor progressive ‘people before profit’ parties first is always what I advocate for, because a minority government is more accountable.
