  1. CW: Victorian Legislative Council results

Victorian Legislative Council results declared. 5 MLCs elected from 8 regions.
With 40 seats, the left/right divide is 22/18.

    Left/Progressive:
    Labor 15 (-3)
    Greens 4 (+3)
    Legalise Cannabis 2 (+2)
    Animal Justice 1 (0)

    Right/Conservative:
    Liberal/National 12/2 (+2/+1)
    Liberal Democrats 1 (-1)
    Labour DLP 1 (+1)
    One Nation 1 (+1)

    Failed to be elected:
    Derryn Hinch's Justice Party (-3)
    Transport Matters Party (-1)
    Fiona Patten's Reason Party (-1)
    Sustainable Australia Party (-1)

Sad to see Adem Somyurek (DLP) defeat Fiona Pattern (Reason) in Northern Metro. Pattern was key to progressive legislation reform negotiating with the Government.

  2. I was interviewed on Solidarity Breakfast | 3CR Community Radioshow Sat 10 Dec. Interview starts about 12 minutes in. Subject was the swings against Labor in the Northern suburbs, and the silence on upgrading the #Upfieldline extending it to Wallan. I also discuss the VAMPIRE index (vulnerability assessment for mortgage, petroleum and inflation risks and expenditure) adding to #costofliving pressures in northern suburbs.

Also for the first time the MPs representing #Merribek have all signed the #climateemergency declaration.

  3. "Nothing is forever. Nothing has a right to political presence. In politics you are there because you give solid form to the aspiration and belief of real people. Those people are not there to give form to your fantasies; that way irrelevance lies."

Very good piece from Jonathan Green on #VicVotes #VicVotes2022:

  4. I think we can assume #DanielAndrews success is as much a vote for democracy as it is against media interference in Australian politics #auspol #VicVotes2022

  5. I just finished summarising the Australian State of the Climate 2022 report for Climate Action Merribek, in the context of the current state election. We are in the age of consequences with climate impacts on food production, health, and other economic activity as well as environmental impacts on ecosystems adding to species extinction threat..

  6. Transport election promises are much smaller this time round in Victoria #vicvotes2022, but the quality control is no better.

Just reflecting Capacity issues in the northern transport corridor identified by Infrastructure Australia, but no plan by either major party to address this. It needs #UpfieldRailline extended to Craigieburn and Wallan. Population north of Craigieburn will be approaching 100k in 9 years time, no transport plan to address this. #Upgradeupfield #publictransport #vicvotes

  7. CW: Victorian State Election/Far-Right Extremism

Yep, Dan Andrews is “so desperate” when he labels people who’ve previously done Nazi salutes at the Shrine of Remembrance as Nazis.

    No, he’s not.

Far-right extremism is on the rise and the Victorian Liberals are preferencing them.

Good on the Premier for calling that out.

  8. CW: The Victorian State Election and Rupert Murdoch’s constant conservative bootlicking

    Translation:

Axe pandemic laws: leave the state unprepared for and unable to act during the next pandemic.

    Abolish taxes: underfund services.

Unite Victoria: an empty sound bite. They’re not going to do that when they run bigot candidates who support gay conversion therapy and refer to First Nations people as “bloody aboriginal”.

Attack cost of living: they’d try. But their neoliberal approach never works - trickle down economics was a scam from the start, but conservatives like the Liberals and Nationals can’t let it go.

Also, I’m tired of Murdoch shoving this conservative propaganda in our faces.

In his papers, on SkyNews or FOX overseas.

    I’m over it.

It’s entirely bias and partisan, he’s trying to install the leaders he wants into the states and countries he reaches.
