A wee patch of #primroses in a large area of primroses on the south side of the #Sidlaws on our dog walk this morning. All in #summer warmth and a warm breeze for a change.

The rowan tree or mountain ash (Sorbus aucuparia) is supposed to protect against #witches - & #nightmares. You just leave a #branch above your #bed to keep the latter away. According to a Scottish legend, if you want to see a fairy, you must eat a primrose, or rub primrose oil on your eyelids. Some ancient Druids thought that standing in a large swathe of primroses gave you passage to fairyland.
Some farmers used to put primroses in their cowsheds to stop fairies stealing the milk, or braided them into the manes of horses for protection. We have never had any trouble from the fairies.

The early purple #orchid contingent was putting on a wonderful show alongside the #bluebells (and the last of the #primroses) in this classic Cornish #hedgerow earlier #today.
I recall that these orchids were very rare hereabouts during my #1970s childhood. Improved hedgerow management, decreased pesticide use, and an improved general awareness of these gorgeous plants really seems to have made a difference 💚

In seven years the annual rainfall has decreased by 50%. This year I also discovered how to create images of favourite or imagined landscapes using #ai #aiart #DALLE2 #dalle. Here’s how I imagine my spruce #forest to be in the spring. In reality brambles feature big time but the #ferns #violets and #primroses do thrive.
