@marcellaflamme Yes, there are different opinions of what's preferable. I didn't argue with that.

I'm just curious why #CreativeCommons NC was considered preferable here.

If we want to talk terminology...

FreedomDefined.org can be used for a definition of a #FreeLicense, opendefinition.org for a definition of an #OpenLicense.

#Punctum doesn't seem to argue that NC is an open license.

Terms like "gratis #OpenAccess" are available to reduce confusion, see Peter Suber's classic book.
