Just wrote a piece of software (with help of #mistralai): a #MediaWiki CategoryDiver.
The tool is build e.g. to parse a custom given root category in #WikimediaCommons and get all subcategories (no depth limit) visualize them and return additionally a json file including all filenames in a certain category.

#PanoCommons c'est le futur... littéralement ! J'ai trouvé une photo prise dans le futur, en 2037 😁
Et oui, elle apparaissait comme photo récente alors que mon export de base a 2 mois 🔍
Comme quoi visualiser les photos de #WikimediaCommons sur une carte, ça va aussi permettre de les faire monter en qualité 📈

I’ve been continuing this work of tagging photos of historical markers in #WikimediaCommons and 8 months in, we’ve just tagged over 4000 photos with our #Lua-powered template.
I did some analysis and I’m a bit surprised that the rate of tagging has been pretty consistent at ~500 photos per month! 📈👍️ I thought there would be diminishing returns by now, but maybe there are a few hundred more photos left to tag.

Of course, I'm not saying that self-managed hosting is bad. I'm just saying that there is an ongoing cost that sits on the publisher.
One consequence is that legacy projects will be in danger of disappearing as sites go down (whether on purpose, or because something breaks and the owner has no energy or money to deal with it).
So, I think if we're going to advocate for a more self-hosted web, we also have to advocate for public archives to migrate legacy data to (and possibly just old data, even from live projects).
Is that the role of #InternetArchive or #WikimediaCommons ? IDK.
There are the commercial platforms like #YouTube and #Vimeo -- but they have their own forms of erosion to worry about.
But I think it ought to exist.
I have about 25 GB of Blender source files for Lunatics, and about 60 GB of incidental videos from the project. Presumably, I could pare that down to make digests or something (and I probably will when I make a source release on BD-R). So possibly it should be winnowed down to make it more manageable. But in the long term, a migration to public archives seems like the only way to preserve this sort of thing.
Or else it just vanishes offline, I guess.

Weiß jemand wie es dem Naddl-und-Ronny-Graffiti an der Bahnbrücke Hansastraße geht? Gibt es das noch?
Ich habe das neulich mal auf Wikidata eingetragen (wie auch das am Pfeiler der Carolabrücke), aber ich weiß nichts zum Zustand. Es gibt auch leider noch kein Foto auf Wikimedia Commons.
Hier eine Karte von Graffitis in Dresden (es sind noch nicht viele auf Wikidata eingetragen):

For knowledge to genuinely be open the owners of that knowledge must want it to be. There is much work to be done by open communities to reconcile the goals of free and open knowledge with respect for Indigenous content and honouring self-determination. These documents are one step in that direction.
