Publishing pays (off). How can public scientific knowledge be so exploited for profit?
Science is not just about making new discoveries.
Sharing results with the rest of the world via scientific journals is also a large part of a scientist’s work.
And nowadays, this involves a lot of money.

An interesting finding about #Ukraine from a new preprint on militarized language in scientific communication. Among 91 countries, 🇺🇦 showed the highest prevalence of militarized language in scientific abstracts in 2024: 71.9%, compared with 26.3% in 2010.

We have been living with war since 2014, and since 2022 it has entered almost every part of everyday life. And yet, we continue to work, research, teach, and publish. 💪

New #preprint just dropped on #psyarxiv
Kanter, Haldar, Redish(2026). A novel view of microfinance: implications of the neuroscience of decision-making. psyArXiv.
We propose a novel perspective on what makes microfinance institutions work. We argue that the key is how the institutional structures interact with the computational underpinnings of decision-making to engender #trust .
Part of a new series I am apparently building on what it means to trust and what underlies the success of societies. 🤔
A collaboration with experts in #microfinance, and #sociology connecting to the #neuroscience of #DecisionMaking. And #economics.

I've just had my first preprint posted on the arXiv! 😁
Even though I've had work peer-reviewed and published in the past, this feels like a milestone, as it's where "real" scientists put their papers...
I looked at the ability of several LLMs to localise numbers, dates, and times when translating text. If anyone is feeling particularly bored or curious, it can be found here: https://arxiv.org/abs/2608.05232

I'm extra happy about this #preprint because it is the first visible outcome of a very rewarding long-term #collaboration with Bismark Ofosu-Bamfo (@biso) from #Ghana. I'm sure that many more will follow in the future! 💪🏻

🚨 new #preprint online! 🚨
We study structure-stability relations in #MultiplexNetworks , using #tree-#liana interaction #networks from #Ghana as inspiration. We show that the stabilising effect of #modularity heavily depends on intra-guild interactions and is largest in case of intra-guild facilitation, highlighting the need to study how patterns in inter- and intraguild interactions jointly affect #EcosystemStability.

Generative AI may be changing not only how we write scientific papers, but also who we write them with.
A fascinating new #preprint by Akira Matsui finds that the decades-long decline in solo authorship halted, and in many fields reversed, after the release of ChatGPT.
:oa: https://arxiv.org/abs/2607.10780
A provocative hypothesis: AI may be taking over some of the work previously done by human co-authors.

Interesting nugget:
"The research also found that studies that appeared first as preprints are retracted at roughly half the rate of papers that did not appear online before being in a peer-reviewed journal."
-
"move from #preprint to peer-reviewed #publication leaves the central claims of most abstracts intact, indicating preprints are a reliable source…papers that were never posted as preprints were retracted at roughly twice the rate of those that were…"

BioHackrXiv authors can use Citation Typing Ontology (CiTO) citation intent annotations to express why they are citing the articles they cite. And many have! See https://doi.org/10.37044/OSF.IO/6RJVC and https://doi.org/10.5281/ZENODO.10072013
With 2026 being the fifth year of this feature, let's celebrate this with a citation network based on CiTO!

I got a new preprint out talking about the impact of heatwaves (and warming in general) on the sediment biogeochemistry of temperate estuaries. Short version: it may contribute to eutrophication.

💡 We encourage you to read INASP's insightful policy paper for equitable research access, based on evidence review and expert interviews.
The document sets out six levers that funders and policymakers can use to support #preprint sharing and drive much-needed change in the research communication system:

🧠 What can a single neuron compute?
A new #bioRxiv #preprint introduces #TwinProp, using a differentiable digital twin to optimize synaptic strengths and locations in a detailed layer 5 #pyramidal #CellModel. One #neuron classified images and speech and even solved 10-bit parity with 91% accuracy. The key: distributed #dendritic nonlinearities, especially #NMDA-dependent integration:
