  1. @Remittancegirl Looking at all the creators’ fascist eugenics ideas, I’m starting to think there really is full purpose behind it:
    "Researchers at the City University of New York (Cuny) and King’s College London have published a paper on how various chatbots protect – or fail to safeguard – users’ mental health.

    Experts are increasingly warning that psychosis or mania can be fuelled by AI chatbots."

  2. Hi #neuromastodon, today the latest preprint of an extremely cool, 100% Uruguay-based team has been released :mate:

    A filopodia-based dendritic mechanosensory compartment in CSF-contacting neurons

    There we show that, contrary to what zebrafish has taught, these spinal cord neurons from adult mice (CSF-cN) lack cilia. Furthermore, they show multiple filopodia and are able to sense mechanical stimuli through PKD2L1. That, and other nice stuff.

    If you didn't know what to read this weekend, here you have it:

  4. 🚨 new #preprint 🚨

    The evolutionary emergence of #EcologicalNetworks has been studied for decades but usually focussing on one type of interaction at a time, even though organisms naturally engage in multiple interaction types simultaneously. The combined effect of different interaction types on diversification thus remains unclear - until now. 😜

    I hope you enjoy reading this fascinating story about ecological #pleiotropy and how it shapes #diversification patterns!

Sie kann #Bewertungslogiken sowie #Publikationsinfrastruktur noch so gestalten, dass diese den epistemischen Anforderungen der Disziplin entsprechen & eine belastbare Grundlage für #Forschungsbewertung schaffen.

  6. I would appreciate recommendations for a preprint server to submit preprints in computational intelligence / computational cognitive science.

    I know about the following preprint servers and would appreciate opinions about their relative merits for that topic area, and links to any other relevant preprint servers.

    * techrxiv.org/

    * preprints.org/

    * arxiv.org/
    - The available fine-grained categories in Computer Science *might* not cover my topics (depending on how strictly the categories are interpreted).
    - The submission formats *might* be incompatible with my writing workflow.

    * osf.io/preprints/discover
    - OSF Preprints is a network of community-run OSF-hosted preprint servers. The only vaguely relevant community server is PssyArXiv, and it isn't clear that my topics of interest are on-scope for PsyArXiv.

    * zenodo.org/
    - Appears to have no constraints on format or topic (which is probably positive for me).
    - Is not indexed by Google Scholar. (I have views about Google. However, not being indexed by Google means that preprints on Zenodo are effectively invisible to many researchers.)

Male genital morphology apparently does not prevent hybridization, pre-mating #barriers are still unknown.

    A very interesting article on how LLMs might actually work. I am sceptic about the overextension of the work to cognitive sciences but the authors make a good point. I wonder what the actual cognitive scientists might say.

  17. Soil Moisture and Vegetation are Key Predictors of Precipitation-driven Groundwater Recharge Occurrences in Southeastern Australia

    Akhilesh Kumar has the first output from his PhD research available as a preprint:
    papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf

    These are his words:

    "I am excited to share the first results from my PhD. The study looked at important predictors of groundwater recharge occurrences.

    The hydrogeologist community mostly agrees on variables that are important for predicting when groundwater recharge happens but what we are less certain about is the extent of how important these variables are and even less so on if there is a cause-and-effect relationship between them and recharge occurrences.

    In this study we investigated the correlation, mutual as well as causal aspects of this relationship and found that soil saturation and vegetation are strongest predictors while rainfall is strong predictor at 6-7 days of cumulative accumulation.

    A big thank you to the NGROS team for their valuable contributions and to my co-authors!!! 🙌 "

  18. GR vs MOND - not competing theories, both emerge from 7D geometry.

    New paper: Kaluza-Klein reduction splits into GR (metric) + MOND (scalar sector).

    7D Einstein-Hilbert → Einstein's equations + AQUAL.

    Prediction: lensing = dynamics. Testable.

  21. 🧠 New #preprint by Komi et al. (2025): Neural #manifolds that orchestrate walking and stopping. Using #Neuropixels recordings from the lumbar spinal cord of freely walking rats, they show that #locomotion arises from rotational #PopulationDynamics within a low-dimensional limit-cycle #manifold. When walking stops, the dynamics collapse into a postural manifold of stable fixed points, each encoding a distinct pose.

  34. It sucks that posting a paper on #SSRN (or probably any widely used #preprint platform) results in semi-regular spam emails from predatory publishers offering to publish it in their (often thematically inappropriate) predatory journals.

    Of course, most people probably send them to spam, but I imagine they're using the scattershot technique where they just need to catch a few people unaware of their practices who desperately need publications.
