  2. Apparently it's Nick Lowe's birthday today.

I think this is the first song of his that I knew was his. He had me with the rhyme "she was the winner who became the doggy's dinner".

    Genius.

  3. New #review today: "#BrinsleySchwarz, the band, named after the founder, was a 70s English pub rock band known for members Schwarz and #NickLowe. They flourished for a few years, and disbanded in 1975. Brinsley Schwarz, the multi-instrumentalist musician, has a long career performing with Ducks Deluxe and The Rumour." #ExposeOnline expose.org/index.php/articles/

  4. "I love the sound of breaking glass" - Nick Lowe

Don't say it, Noel. Don't say it.

    He said it.

When the Costume Dept. had its lottery for outfits, did Nick draw "leprechaun (but we've lost the hat)"?

  5. Get Happy

February 15, 1980 ~ Elvis Costello and The Attractions release Get Happy. Produced by Nick Lowe, it's Elvis' fourth album, the third with The Attractions and is heavily influenced by 1960s soul, R&B, and ska.  Check out Get Happy by Elvis Costello on Amazon Music #elviscostello #elviscostelloandtheattractions #gethappy #80srock #twotone #rock #music #musicsky #musiciansky #rockmusic #nicklowe

  6. I love this music video of Mavis Staples, Wilco, and Nick Lowe covering "The Weight" so much. I watch it anytime I need a lift.

  7. There's an old Nick Lowe song called So It Goes, that has the line "discussions with the Russians". And whenever I hear news stories with the words "discussions", I think of this song. And since there are lots of news stories about discussions with the Russians at the moment, I think about it a lot!

Nearly fifty years old, the first release on Stiff Records (tagline: "if it ain't Stiff, it ain't worth a fuck").

    Still sounds good!

  9. "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding" is a 1974 song written by English singer/songwriter #NickLowe. Initially released by Lowe with his band Brinsley Schwarz on their 1974 album #TheNewFavouritesOfBrinsleySchwarz, the song was released as a single and did not chart. The song was most famously covered by #ElvisCostello and #theAttractions, who recorded a version of the song that was released as a B-side to Lowe's 1978 solo single "American Squirm".

  10. John Hiatt, Bring the Family, 1987 on A&M

John Hiatt’s eighth studio album and his first on A&M. What a fantastic songwriter! Actually paid for by Demon Records in the UK, but picked up after being completed by A&M in the US.

Guests include Ry Cooder (doing harmony vocals on “Have a Little Faith in Me” as well as electric guitar and sitar work), Nick Lowe on bass, and Jim Keltner on drums, making this something of a proto-Little Village album. Also includes “Thing Called Love” that was later a hit for Bonnie Raitt.

My copy—via Waterloo Records in Austin TX—is a Columbia House club pressing (Carrollton) with CRC on the bottom of the rear cover.

  11. Dave Edmunds (Rockpile) - Twangin’

And here ends the Rockpile saga. They were in the process of exploding during the making of this album, and don’t appear on all tracks. (The Stray Cats back him on one…)

Still a good record, but definitely tilting heavily Edmunds, and it’s probably the last really good album he made, unfortunately.

Well, Rockpile had an exceptional run…and the players continued to matter later.

  12. "Cruel to Be Kind" is a song co-written by #NickLowe and his former bandmate #IanGomm while the pair were in #BrinsleySchwarz. The song only appeared as the 1978 #Bside of "Little Hitler" until #ColumbiaRecords convinced Lowe to rerecord it as a potential solo single for his 1979 album #LabourOfLust. Musically, the song was inspired by "#TheLoveILost" by #HaroldMelvinAndTheBlueNotes, an influence reflected in more recent performances of the song.

    Little Village - self titled

A band combining the talents of Ry Cooder, John Hiatt, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner, Little Village only produced this album. It has some great tracks. I particularly like She Runs Hot (I'll put a YT link in a reply)
