The downside of living in a capital city with flagship state universities is that at the end of every summer you will be inconvenienced by a new cohort of freshman thumbheads bumble-fucking their way through the world as they figure out how traffic works, how parking works, how cafes work, how bars work.

The hardest part of that, for me, is maintaining empathy and patience, remembering that once upon a time I was a thumb-headed bumble-fucker myself.

As part of the massive I-35 expansion boondoggle, TxDOT has a huge project underway quite some distance from I-35 itself, over by Levander Loop/US183/Old Montopolis Bridge, diverting rainwater to the Colorado River (I think).

This is the thicket of cranes currently on the construction site. I ride by it on my commute to work.

The sky is a sickly shade of powder blue, like a Nudie Suit, from the Saharan dust plume. The water tastes of zebra mussels. Someone obviously messed with Texas. I want them found and brought to me.

At exactly the point where this protected bike lane ends, metered parking (in what is still a bike lane) begins, so not only are cars creating a blind alley and a hazard for cyclists, the city is profiting from it.
