I bought their first CD because I thought they had a cool name (true!), and I haven't regretted it a moment. Musical Interlude: I'm a longtime fan of Los Straitjackets, having picked up their first CD because I was intrigued by their name. (True story.) Known for fierce instrumental surf/spy guitar, they've dabbled in vocal music from time to time, including this cover of a Jessi Colter song. I groove to the backing vocals whenever I listen to it.

Musical Interlude: The late Eddy Clearwater was nicknamed "The Chief," and I think he got away with it because he was part Cherokee. His wearing of a Native war bonnet in performances probably wouldn't go over well today, but it was part of his style. I saw him with Los Straitjackets, and got to shake his hand; a charming man who was enjoying himself thoroughly onstage. Here's a track from their Grammy-nominated collaboration..
