  1. #TIL Al Lewis (Grandpa Munster in The Munsters, Leo Schnauser in Car 54, Where Are You?) presented a series of VHS releases of horror & scifi movies, mostly public domain & several shown in the #Monsterdon watch party, from Amvest Video. Him doing a brief intro & outro, not movie-specific (he pauses while an off-screen "Igor" says the name of the film), while appearing very "Grandpa Munster"-esque.

Although he actually did it as "Grampa" (not Grandpa Munster), I guess so Amvest & Lewis could avoid having to license the Grandpa character from the rights owners of The Munsters.

He also used the legally-distinct "Grampa" brand in other ventures like his Italian restaurant Grampa's Bella Gente and licensed the Grampa's name to a mafia-owned comedy club in Staten Island!

I also learned Al stood as the Green candidate in the 1998 New York Governor election, & on Howard Stern's radio show repeatedly chanted "Fuck the FCC!" until Stern snatched the mic away from him!

Back to the topic, I discovered this because on Sunday 13 September, the #ReMonsterdon #WatchParty will be showing ゲゾラ・ガニメ・カメーバ 決戦!南海の大怪獣 (1970), a.k.a. Space Amoeba, a.k.a. Yog, Monster From Space (previously shown in #Monsterdon), & I came across "Grampa Presents Yog, Monster from Space"!

It's on the Internet Archive, so I suppose folks can watch that version if they're "hardcore" :D

  6. Did I go on a nearly 7 minute #rant about why I hate a #meme that insinuates Lily Munster cheated on Herman? Yes. Yes I did.

  7. This is the kind of thing that could only happen to Herman 😂

  8. Fred Gwynne, a.k.a. Herman Munster, was born 100 years ago today.

I've been a fan since the 1960s, when The Munsters used to follow Doctor Who on BBC1 (though I had to sit through The Dick Van Dyke Show in between). I particularly remember watching Herman and family after The Tomb of the Cybermen back in September 1967.

Later this year, the film Munster, Go Home! celebrates its 60th anniversary, so I think I'll kill two mockingbirds with one stone and watch it today in tribute.

  9. From Kip Williams over at bsky:

"I once heard Los Straitjackets play The Munsters theme, and at one point they actually lampshaded the hidden existence of the Mysterioso Pizzicato, upon which the theme is based. I had never noticed!"

Anyway, could one of you kind of people help me out with a pointer to the exact track that does this? Eternal gratitude in advance."

Kip is a terrific fellow, and helping him guarantees good karma.

  10. "Dragula" is a debut solo single co-written and recorded by American #rock musician #RobZombie. It was released in August 1998 as the lead single from his solo debut #HellbillyDeluxe. Since its release, it has become Zombie's most recognizable song as a solo artist. It is also his best-selling song, and had sold over 717,000 copies in the U.S. by 2010. The song is based on the drag racer "#DRAGULA" from the sitcom #TheMunsters. The audio clip "superstition, fear.

  12. Just realized that this is a similar plot to some of the “Uncle Fester Gets a Girlfriend” from “The Addams Family” show & one of the films.. I guess this is a common occurrence for a cheerfully creepy family

💫 A screen legend who bridged worlds: Yvonne De Carlo dazzled in 1940s–50s Hollywood epics and became an icon of gothic television as Lily Munster. Timeless, versatile, and unforgettable.
