  1. A throwback to some frustrated but pro-moth propaganda I printed years ago. I thought I would share for #NationalMothWeek. I don’t own much cashmere but the common clothes moth was eating it! I had to do something. I’m a printmaker so I printed broadsides. It didn’t dissuade the moths, but I felt mildly better and got to celebrate the amazing biodiversity of these lovely insects.

  2. I decided to make some more linocut moths on cyanotypes for #NationalMothWeek. Here’s a little virgin tiger moth on a fern cyanotype I made at the lake in New Brunswick on holiday.

  4. This is a unique hand made cyanotype on watercolour paper (8" x 10.25") with a deckle edge an image wildflowers and grasses with three linocut, moths. The moths are all found here in Ontario: the yellow and purplish-pink Imperial moth (Eacles imperialis), the red-orange, black and cream Virgin Tiger Moth (Apantesis virgo), and the black and white White Underwing (Catocala relicta).

  7. It was a fairly slow morning on the moth sheet today but still had some friends come by to visit

This one was actually pretty far from the sheet, almost to the roof on the side of the house, and I'm so glad I spotted it. Not a great photo but what sight!

    My first Oregon Emerald!

    Synchlora aerata, the Wavy-lined Emerald

  8. What I believe to be Oligia rampartensis, crawling on my finger

I very gently revealed its hindwing to help hopefully secure an ID to species

It definitely survived the encounter and seemed to have flown off in the morning like 99% of the other critters brought in to the moth sheet

Tbh I was probably as nervous as it was. That was my first time handling a moth this way but it went well

  9. Scopula junctaria, the Simple Wave

A lovely delicate white moth, stunning in its own way compared to most of the others

  10. There were several of these cuties today, none yesterday.

That’s why it’s moth week, and not moth day!

  13. There were several of these little beauties, and what a great name

    Confusing Petrophila, Petrophila confusalis

  14. One of the larger moths to appear today, some kind of Owlet moth.

I am gonna be busy on BugGuide trying to figure these out to species!

  17. Less showy than butterflies, moths fly under the radar. But they’re remarkable: complex wings, disguises, and unexpected superpowers ecofriendlywest.ca/moths-and-t #NationalMothWeek

  22. It's National Moth Week!

Leave your porchlight on and check it out before you go to bed or even when you wake up in the morning

I don't have my moth sheet set up yet (still finding all the pieces) but I left our back porch light on last night and came out this morning to find a couple of these little cuties

  24. CW: cool spotted moth on leaf

    @friesen5000
Here's a cool moth I saw the other day- a first for me, and seems the id is a bit interesting: Haploa genus, maybe lecontei, originally expected only as far west as Manitoba, seems it has been moving West with University of Alberta having found larvae near Edmonton... I'm not sure if there is another species that is a better fit, another I saw seems even more eastern, and south...
