  1. Did #moom for Mac just decide to publish an update that removed all my muscle-memorized hotkeys in favor of a new selector that's more convoluted?

    :sadness:

  2. OMG! I just discovered an #Automation solution using #ManyTricks #Moom and #SteerMouse to fix a regression in #macOS that was introduced in 10.13 High Sierra, and has been getting worse with each OS update. Bliss! A major workflow I used was broken, and now I can work in my preferred way again.

    Documentation tomorrow.

  3. @macsparky "Moom provides an import/export option to make it easy to share your collection of actions." - I switched to #Moom from #Magnet recently do you know any online resource where actions are shared between users?

  4. Running late this month thanks to some fairly heavy work commitments and rapidly approaching deadlines, but my round up for last month is now up. Probably a little lighter than usual, but there’s at least a few nuggets in there for folks. Top tips for #Alfred & #Drafts, #Moom & #Bunch, a dash of #homeautomation, a podcast (#mpu #relayfm), and a sprinkling of other good stuff.

  9. Does anyone know a tool or trick how to save and restore the position of applications (windows) on the connected screens?

When I'm switching between office and home setup with each multiple monitors, the apps seem to move between screens (randomly). I'd like the browser always to be on screen A at home and Screen B in the office ... etc.

  10. A quick , unplanned, tip post today on using #Moom by ManyTricks with #Bunch by @ttscoff. Can I make your use of these two apps a touch easier? Maybe 🤷🏼

  11. @al3x In a word, no.

Per this FAQ page from #Moom developer Many Tricks, it’s not possible to sync its settings automatically between Macs for several good reasons. It’s also a bad idea to try to use third-party sync services like Dropbox, as Moom is not coded to expect multiple copies of itself to keep a single settings file open: manytricks.com/osticket/kb/faq

You *can* quit Moom on one Mac, export its settings from the command line, and then import them with a command on a second Mac.

  12. I am a very happy #moom user now for at least 8 years, in which I got all upgrades for free. Even when #macOS versions changed considerably and also in a time, when other companies already kinda extorted money by forced updates with updated macOS versions all the freaking time.

Hence, the paid upgrade today for moom 4 by #manytricks was just a no-brainer, especially given that they don't went subscription:

  13. Enjoying Moom 4. I didn't realize Moom 3 was released 12 years ago. Best value proposition ever? #software #moom

  14. Are you an #Alfred app user who wants to control your Mac window layout? Do you have #Moom by ManyTricks to help you with that? Well now I've created a handy little Alfred workflow to help you with your “Moom-ing”.

As usual I've got a full set of documentation available for this free download, so have at it and let me know if this 1.0.0 release works for you or if you find any bugs, etc.

  15. @neurologo @kevan I also vouch for #Moom. Other #Mac window management add-ons try to impose too much of their developers’ preferences, such as funky keyboard-only controls, limited window placement, or obtuse configuration files.

Moom feels like what #Apple would shoot for if they went beyond simple split screens.

  16. I would like to thank @rgriff for putting up with Many Questions this week. I may have found a suitable replacement for Divvy.

Not exactly what I wanted, but I’m thinking it will do.

  18. And see now, #Moom has a feature I actually want - saving the position of a cluster of windows and then restoring it. But it costs $10. NO. Want FOSS for this.

Display Maid, says Google, can also do this. $6. NO.
    Stay. $15. NO!
Mosaic. 9 pounds, arse knows what that is in US$. NO!
Keyboard Maestro. THIRTY SIX DOLLARS? NO!!!!!!

Do I waste the rest of my morning looking at crap for the Mac to do basic stuff, or do I press the button on my KVM and get back to Windows where I can breathe again? Hmm.

  19. @randomgeek @minego @perigrin @gizmomathboy #ManyTricks #Moom fits my #macOS window tiling needs—it doesn’t force weird keyboard combos that may not map well on TKL or smaller keyboards. manytricks.com/moom/

And I have a bunch of other tweaky things and apps I consider essential. #Homebrew Bundle makes sure they’re repeatably installable on a new machine. github.com/Homebrew/homebrew-b

  20. @viticci I have #StageManager disabled on #macOSVentura precisely because managing groups is so wonky. I just use #Spaces and #Moom by Many Tricks: manytricks.com/moom

  21. Finer Tech Newsletter # 83 is out!

I have tips on managing your #AirPods with your #Mac, using a keyboard shortcut cheatsheet on #iPad and Mac (you heard me), window management with #Moom, some good reads, and more: newsletter.finertech.com/issue
