  1. Is #Divvy still the reigning champion of window management tools for #MacOS?

I've heard of alternatives like Rectangle and Raycast. And I just found out that I can turn off "Tiled windows have margins" in MacOS's internal tiling solution, so I might not even need one of those tools. (It was the margins that were deeply bothering me.)

  6. New #OpenAccess research in JTLU: “How #bikesharing changed destination distance for its users: A case study of Chicago Metropolitan Area” by Shubhayan Ukil, University of Michigan, and Aditi Misra, University of Colorado, Denver.

    jtlu.org/index.php/jtlu/articl

The paper examines the impact of #Divvy shared bike services in the #Chicago metro region on trip distance of its users across all trips from 2008 and 2018, finding an 0.84km reduction in average trip distance among Divvy users when #bikeshare was available.

Recommendations include planning for shared bike services that are integrated with #transit in urban areas and promoting mixed land use so that users can choose proximate destinations in dense urban areas.

  11. I would like to thank @rgriff for putting up with Many Questions this week. I may have found a suitable replacement for Divvy.

Not exactly what I wanted, but I’m thinking it will do.

  16. I’ve been managing windows on my Macs with Divvy happily for … a decade? More? It fits my brain.

However, I’m in need of a modern app from a responsive developer that can manage windows in a similar fashion that combines a single keyboard shortcut to activate, and probably a graphical grid to divide up display space, where I use the pointer to select cells. Keyboard control of windows is secondary.

  21. Also since last week, #Divvy relocated a bike stand due to impending construction- the new location is right where the zealots congregate every Saturday. So if you use bike sharing, and feel like yelling at zealots, here’s your opportunity!

  26. First day on #divvy in Chicago. My legs need some work but I really enjoyed the rides. I’m looking forward to a Summer of lakefront commuting.

  28. This weekend, I will try tiling window managers like #yabai and #Amethyst together with #SketchyBar as a #macOS menu alternative.

I'm already working in some form of tiling window world with #Divvy, let go the next step.

The only thing that is stopping me is that there is no default concept for a single centered window, which is my default state.

I'm sure there are ways to configure or script a solution for that too. Let's see, what the result is after this weekend.

  31. I swear #Brex is trying to get me to look at their competitors.

They're failing me right now at simple customer service stuff.

Anyone have thoughts on #Brex vs #Rho vs #Divvy vs #Ramp?

  35. @ikarim yes and the same size as well. Which wouldn’t be a deal breaker as I have window resizing (#Divvy) in my muscle memory.
The problem that stopped me using it, for now, is the SSH handling. That I can’t fix easily.
So I created a new #iTerm2 profile and set it up to work better with #neovim. There still some gotchas, but I’m on it.

  38. @danfl thanks Dan. The one killer feature #Divvy has is margins. From the screenshots of #rectangle it's missing these.

I find them super helpful to keep my windows some pixels apart from each other and border of my screen. Maybe that's OCD for some people who want maximum screen real estate, but I like some space between.

What I like are the shortcuts to move windows around. I can do this only through the presets in Divvy.

  40. Earlier this year, I replaced #Alfred, that I used ever since it came out, with #Raycast which is fitting my needs better and has a very interesting plugin/extension mechanism.

If you can program in #TypeScript and have some basic #React knowledge, you can create plugins for Raycast.

Raycast comes with built-in window management. For the last week, I replaced my #Divvy solution with Raycast. Tonight I changed back. Raycast works, but it's lacking the UI/UX and customizability of Divvy.
