Visiting cycle-friendly Ferrara on a shared e-bike from Dott (formerly Tier). The bike is super heavy and in poor condition: lame brakes, friction noise from all parts. Sounds like a coffee grinder. And the service allows only three bikes in a group ride.

To kind of thematically fit with @jon's #velocity2025 coverage, here's some highlights of the story of Pomerania's public bike-sharing service, #Mevo:
The wild ride started when the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area (an intercommunal cooperation org) awarded a contract for setting up the system to Nextbike. Together, they promised thousands of bikes, all of them electric, for the insanely low price of 10 PLN/month for 90 minutes a day (or 0.10 PLN/min without a subscription). Generell bin ich von diesem Artikel über die Nachhaltigkeit von #Fahrrädern nicht so begeistert, da der Autor meiner Meinung nach einige zweifelhafte Behauptungen aufstellt. Dennoch könnte er einen sehr guten Punkt haben, wenn er sagt, dass #Bikesharing #leihfahrrader #Leihrad weitaus weniger nachhaltig ist als der Besitz eines eigenen Fahrrads:

Das #VeloLeo-#Bikesharing in #Braunschweig ist ein gutes Konzept.
Was mir fehlt ist die Anbindung an die lokalen Mobilitätsapps bspw. der #BSVG, um einen niedrigschwelligen Zugang zu ermöglichen.

Daneben halte ich es für moralisch diskutabel, ein Sharingsystem zu anzubieten, dass operativ über die örtliche #Lebenshilfe betrieben wird, wo die Mitarbeitenden keinen #Mindestlohn erhalten, während #nextbike die Rendite einsackt.

New #OpenAccess research in JTLU: “How #bikesharing changed destination distance for its users: A case study of Chicago Metropolitan Area” by Shubhayan Ukil, University of Michigan, and Aditi Misra, University of Colorado, Denver.

The paper examines the impact of #Divvy shared bike services in the #Chicago metro region on trip distance of its users across all trips from 2008 and 2018, finding an 0.84km reduction in average trip distance among Divvy users when #bikeshare was available.

Recommendations include planning for shared bike services that are integrated with #transit in urban areas and promoting mixed land use so that users can choose proximate destinations in dense urban areas.

Heute wurde das Modellprojekt #smile24 getestet. Mit der "Naturparklinie" ging es von #Schleswig nach Arnis.
Nach einem kurzweiligen Spaziergang durch diese, kleinste Stadt in Deutschland spazierten wir weiter bis nach #Kappeln. Zurück ging es dann wieder mit dem Bus durch alle schönen Schleidörfer bis nach Schleswig. #bikesharing Stationen haben wir in Lindaunis und Kappeln auch gesehen 😊
Ein gelungener Tag.

That app bombards you with notifications. And while the docking stations have become smaller and easier to install, it has become harder for tourists without a #Taiwan-ese phone number to rent and use a YouBike.
Last year in Kaohsiung I would not find any #YouBike station with a Kiosk service pillar that would allow for the use of a credit card. Plenty of those in Taichung and Taipei however.
