  1. A conservative California upbringing paved Natalie Harp’s way to Trump

WASHINGTON — Natalie Harp has never been in the spotlight quite like this. Before the 35-year-old White House aide made…

  3. Atlanta's 28,000 #Big #Brother eyes 👀 are about as useful as a chocolate teapot in solving crimes. But hey, at least there's plenty of footage for the next reality TV flop! 🎥📉

  7. I like my #Brother printer but the #privacy implications of using it seem to be getting increasingly noxious.

Has anyone done network analysis to figure out what "types of files" are sent to their servers?

viz. "Your Files. When you print or scan certain types of files through the App, such files will be automatically sent to our server [...] It is your discretion whether to print or scan data that includes any personal information...."

  8. Habe Angelegenheit nun mit nem Brother DCP-1510E angegangen. Trifft soweit die Anforderungen. Anschalten, Original aufs Vorlagenglas legen, Start drücken > Kopie kommt.

Languagecodes und Countrycodes wären jetzt spannend .. und how too ..

  9. Migrated from Windows to Linux leaving a Brother P-Touch label printer behind? Your printer may still be useful and work in Linux despite no mfg Linux support.

My decade-old Brother PT-2700 working on Gentoo Linux with both the command-line ptouch-print utility and the graphical ptouch-rs [Rust] application. I also built ptouch-rs successfully on a Raspberry Pi 4 running Raspberry Pi OS "Trixie.".

  11. @darkling Can't comment about that specific model, but are supposed to have a generally friendly driver support - unlike some firms.

However in general I agree that printers are evil...

  12. Have I Finished Mourning Or Just Accepted It?

My younger brother, Bret, died tragically hiking in Colorado early last month. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. I’ve been through all the stages of grief, but now I think I’ve settled on the acceptance stage.

It could be because my wife is recovering from surgery and I’m in charge of so much around the house. It could also be that I’m just in the acceptance stage and that’s okay.

I still think about him every morning when I wake up and realize that he’s no longer here. But it’s more like a realization than a sob or anything.

You know the elephant on my shoulders giving me a back rub? It’s gone too. I guess distractions help.

Does this mean that I won’t get hit with grief again about Bret dying? No. I’m sure I’ll be sad and crying at his celebration of life get together later this month.

I guess time lessens all sadness. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Update 7/12/2026: Yea, well it hit me again. I just had to concentrate on other things in my life for a few weeks. Now that things have died down the realization that Bret died hit me. Not like a ton of bricks, but got me down and sad. In 2 weeks we have the East Coast celebration of life for him. That’ll give me some much needed closure. I think what hits me the hardest is that we weren’t extremely close, and I feel like I could have tried harder. Bah! Oh well. Lot’s of “what ifs” will always be there.

  13. Every Morning

Every morning I wake up and the first thing that pops into my head, most of the time very briefly, is: fuck Bret died.

Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I just think about what a fantastic guy he was. Sometimes I think about the what ifs.

I know the last one isn’t fair to do to myself. But I can’t help it. The wishes that will never come true keep coming. I wish I was closer to him.

    I wish.

    I wish.

    I wish.

Oh well. They’ll never come true.

    That fucking sucks.

Here’s an example of how weird my grief is. I’m writing this and 10 days ago I’d be sobbing. Right now I’m stoic and just writing. Though my stomach is in a knot.

Will I cry later? Probably. Will something hit me like a punch in the gut? Maybe.

I wonder if the fact that we weren’t very close that my grief isn’t as strong. I mean I’m sad as fuck. I have weight on my shoulders like a pigmy elephant is giving me a horrible backrub. 😟

But I’m not constantly upset. Just somber.

Am I the happy go-lucky guy that I normally am? Not as much right now, but that’s understandable.

There are no words to describe losing someone. Especially so suddenly and tragically.

Fucking sucks isn’t even close enough. Even though it’s the closest I can get.

Oh well… I know grief takes time. And it will definitely take time. I know that.

Miss you, Bretsky! I will always love you! 💔

Also neu anlegen, nun geht's. #NoUpdate

  15. My little nephew has his 3rd birthday, today. He'll be coming over around 11am.
For some reason, I kept thinking he was turning 2 not 3. The kid's growing fast.

  16. Treasure is the theme of today’s #TheDisciplesWay verse (Mathew 6:19-21). Although it’s tempting to apply it to the current politico-economic situation in the U.S., what I’m really reflecting on is my late family, especially my #brother. I learned long ago that valuing things meant they would inevitably be taken away from me. Such losses always hurt but I tended to try to have the attitude that at least I have the memories & those are what really count which is most definitely true. Yesterday, however, I inherited my brother’s watch & immediately put it on. It’s quite possibly the most expensive piece of jewelry I own & looks rather silly on my wrist. What matters most, however, is that at last I have a tangible link to my brother. I held onto my wrist all day because it felt like hugging him. Is the watch a treasure? Yes, but not because of its resale value. It’s treasure because it gave me my brother’s hugs back. And I am profoundly grateful for that.
