Has anyone done network analysis to figure out what "types of files" are sent to their servers?

Aber: Wie bringt man dem Ding ein Deutsches Menü bei? Englisch hab ich hingebracht, war vorher Polnisch. Deutsch wird erst angenommen, nach dem Reboot isser aber wieder Englisch ..

Hab mich ne ganze Zeit mit dem Dingen rumgeschlagen, nachdem ich es aufgebaut hatte. Ständig hing die Verbindung und das Gerät verlor die WLAN-Verbindung.
Turns out: Brother kann nur 2,4GHz, und wenn man ein paralleles 5GHz Netz mit der gleichen SSID hat (wie normale Menschen), dann mag der Drucker das nicht.Unifi sei Dank: 2. Netz mit anderer SSID aufgemacht und auf 2,4GHz sowie den nächsten AP limitiert. Und schon läuft das. War doch ganz einfach!

Have I Finished Mourning Or Just Accepted It?
My younger brother, Bret, died tragically hiking in Colorado early last month. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. I’ve been through all the stages of grief, but now I think I’ve settled on the acceptance stage.
It could be because my wife is recovering from surgery and I’m in charge of so much around the house. It could also be that I’m just in the acceptance stage and that’s okay.
I still think about him every morning when I wake up and realize that he’s no longer here. But it’s more like a realization than a sob or anything.
You know the elephant on my shoulders giving me a back rub? It’s gone too. I guess distractions help.
Does this mean that I won’t get hit with grief again about Bret dying? No. I’m sure I’ll be sad and crying at his celebration of life get together later this month.
I guess time lessens all sadness. 🤷🏻♂️
Update 7/12/2026: Yea, well it hit me again. I just had to concentrate on other things in my life for a few weeks. Now that things have died down the realization that Bret died hit me. Not like a ton of bricks, but got me down and sad. In 2 weeks we have the East Coast celebration of life for him. That’ll give me some much needed closure. I think what hits me the hardest is that we weren’t extremely close, and I feel like I could have tried harder. Bah! Oh well. Lot’s of “what ifs” will always be there.

Every Morning
Every morning I wake up and the first thing that pops into my head, most of the time very briefly, is: fuck Bret died.
Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I just think about what a fantastic guy he was. Sometimes I think about the what ifs.
I know the last one isn’t fair to do to myself. But I can’t help it. The wishes that will never come true keep coming. I wish I was closer to him.

Oh well. They’ll never come true.
That fucking sucks.
Here’s an example of how weird my grief is. I’m writing this and 10 days ago I’d be sobbing. Right now I’m stoic and just writing. Though my stomach is in a knot.
Will I cry later? Probably. Will something hit me like a punch in the gut? Maybe.
I wonder if the fact that we weren’t very close that my grief isn’t as strong. I mean I’m sad as fuck. I have weight on my shoulders like a pigmy elephant is giving me a horrible backrub. 😟
But I’m not constantly upset. Just somber.
Am I the happy go-lucky guy that I normally am? Not as much right now, but that’s understandable.
There are no words to describe losing someone. Especially so suddenly and tragically.
Fucking sucks isn’t even close enough. Even though it’s the closest I can get.
Oh well… I know grief takes time. And it will definitely take time. I know that.

Brother Drucker unter Linux updaten
https://blog.sengotta.net/brother-drucker-unter-linux-updaten/Seit sehr vielen Jahren setze ich auf Drucker der Marke Brother. Sie sind robust, gebraucht oft günstig zu haben und auch Ersatzteile bekommt man günstig ohne irgendwelchen DRM quatsch.
Die Drucker werden von der Treiber Seite her auch sehr gut unter Linux unterstützt, einstecken und los gehts.
Das einzige was schon immer doof war: die Software um die Firmware zu updaten gibt es nur für Windows und MacOS. Jetzt kann man versuchen die Software via Wine oder in einer Windows VM auszuführen, aber das hat bei mir nie wirklich geklappt. In der Regel wurde der Drucker nicht gefunden.
Das fand ich bisher nicht tragisch, denn wenn der Drucker tut was er soll: warum dann zwangsläufig updaten.
Heute wollte ich bei meinem HL-3172CDW jedoch das Wlan einrichten, und siehe da der Drucker unterstützt nur WEP als Wlan Verschlüsselung. Okay das ist wirklich ein Manko.
Also schnell geschaut, und ja die Software für Firmware Update gibt es immer nur noch für Windows und OSX, und nein Sie tut es immer noch nicht unter Wine oder ner VM.
Paar erfolglose Versuche später bin ich dann bei folgendem Python Script gelandet: https://github.com/CauldronDevelopmentLLC/oh-brother
Damit war ich dann auch in der Lage meinen Drucker zu updaten. Nach dem Update stand dann auch WPA für das Wlan zur Verfügung.
Wie das ganze funktioniert ist aber echt interessant, denn viel Magie ist wirklich nicht notwendig. Die notwendigen daten werden via SNMP gesammelt, daraus wird eine XML mit der Spezifikation des Druckers gebaut. Diese wird an den Update Server von Brother geschickt und man bekommt den Link zur aktuellen Firmware File. Diese wird dann via nc oder ftp auf den Drucker geschoben und der erledigt den Rest.
Der Prozess ist recht „streamlined“ und warum es Brother nicht schafft dafür ein Linux Script etc. bereit zustellen weiß ich nicht. Wahrscheinlich kann man das ganze auch problemlos in Shellscript bauen.

Hat noch jemand von euch nen Brother P-touch E550W (oder nen ähnlichen Labeldrucker in vergleichbarem Format) und ne Empfehlung für ne alternative Tasche oder so, in die das Gerät mit seinem Netzteil passt, und vor allem ne ordentliche Menge an unterschiedlichen Tapes?
Der mitgelieferte Koffer ist zwar solide und nice, aber hat viel zu wenig Platz für unterschiedliche Bänder.

And... The font is different! Even when I set it to Helsinki font, it looks different in width and height.
I printed dozens and dozens of tapes around the home. I need it to keep looking the same!
