I'm slow to upgrade #MacOS, preferring to stay about one rev behind to minimize churn, and avoid new bugs when updating my various tools & workflows.

The #MacOSVentura upgrade just before Xmas, was smooth except for the most basic tool: #Apple's #TextEdit app. It's been terrible!

I use it heavily for note-taking, 'cuz it's lightweight, handles text styles well and has always been solid.

TextEdit rev1.18 is fails on text styling, selecting and most importantly on text search…

Updated my 2012 #MacBookAir to the latest #macOSVentura 13.6 (not Sonoma, yet) and also the latest #Safari 17. That was the first time I've done a Software Update on this machine and it was no big deal: regular OS update process restarted with transparency missing (probably graphical safe mode) then I pushed a button in the OCLP utility and rebooted and everything works perfectly again.

The #OpenCore devs are _wizards_ and it stinks that #Apple won't do this themselves for old hardware.

Sooooooo should I update to #macOSSonoma y/n

(Some neat stuff in it, but nothing of critical importance, and #macOSVentura has run rather well for me)

Two weeks in with my first ever #Apple #Notebook (a 16" #M2 #MacBookPro) and I have to say, it's a near perfect piece of hardware.

I also like #MacOSVentura. Compared to #Windows11 it might not be quite as feature-rich but it has a *way* more polished and consistent user experience with seemingly more attention to the details.

Altogether it's a real joy to work with, it makes you *want* to use it. I never had this experience ever with any of the countless #Windows machines I used in my life.

I know we all have Thoughts and Feelings on the #macOSVentura System Settings app, but something that winds me up every time I use it is that it automatically goes to the Appearance settings. Why not at least General?! Am I missing something that lets you change that?
