I just realized the way I typed this while thinking and visualizing within tracker "Each song will either be four rows per beat at speed 6 or six rows per beat at speed 4"
I know CMOS to a degree for writing so I'm very active with my style while doing so, but I somewhat unconsciously chose to write 6 and six and 4 and four as code variables vs numbers in a sentence. I just through it was interesting. I'm also a 💩 typist. All I know are #renoise and #impulsetracker #schismtracker shortcuts -

Sets from recent shows that included mostly #impulsetracker tracks from the early aughts, that I had split up into stems for live mangling, have received two surprising compliments and comparisons to both Stockhausen and Atom™.
The only musical effect available in that tracker is a low pass resonant filter (with some hacks for high pass), which allows samples and looping instruments to sound a bit like a subtractive synth, also with rudimentary drawable envelopes. -

@dividuum i wonder if it is time to read up on the legendary #impulsetracker MixPaste feature straight from the source. I have tried to solve this 2-3 times for #renoise using #lua but have never come up with a working solution - good enough to go live in #paketti. That and Template Mode are the only ones i am missing.

I have added dozens of features from #PlayerPro #octamed #protracker #impulsetracker #pollytracker #modplugtracker #openmpt #madtracker etc into my add-on for Renoise, #paketti. Always looking 4 more.

I learned how to write music on a ‘Polyend Tracker Mini’, which is a portable battery powered tracker that you can take with you and has everything to write music on the go. I’ve played with #ImpulseTracker some back in the DOS days so while learning the interface took an evening, I got most of a song written in about two days.
Very fun inspiration for experimentation! So here’s a quirky song inspired by #StarControl and the kind of theme songs they wrote for all the different races you can meet and really neatly communicated the feels of the kind of a society you were in contact with.

In the 90's, a friend got a bunch of IBM model-M keyboards from my jr college that were being disposed of, & everyone in our #quake clan got one. then everyone in my band got one for #impulsetracker. later in life, I became a fan of Unicomp's remakes, but now that i'm equally concerned about coding, writing & typing extremely fast without errors and hanging out in the home-row rather than the odd tracker-hover, i'm going to try out a low-profile mechanical keychron (full w/ numpad, of course)

I briefly played around with #ImpulseTracker in the 1990s and I know songs by #AphexTwin. But I have no idea how electronic music was or is actually made. Yet this video here was very intriguing. I wasn't aware that there is or was this collection of weird audio programs with Windows 95 GUIs. It's like finding out that painters of yore were mixing their own pigments using bodily fluids. Ok, well... maybe not... let's get off that train of thought 🤪

i see a lot of #chiptune using multiple #korg kaoss pads, presumably splitting the music output to L/R split-mono and then kaossing from there. I was thinking if i ever got into modular synthesis, i'd probably build a sort of fx mixer for L/R or multichannel split with tracker, rather than a synth. This mockup photo is what I had going on with #impulsetracker and its #midi out some years ago. it was not a retro thing at the time :P It's an effectrix filterfactory, mofx, and a3000 sampler

@jarkko two pattern effects I enjoyed most in #impulsetracker are retrig that allows for tick values that span multiple rows and the same for tremor. I even made a custom DSP for #renoise they emulates IT's Ixy tremolo

this is one of those tracks where i must have made it on a temporary system and the original #impulsetracker and .wav files are gone! forever! oops! and i spent way too much time digging through backups, but a 256kbps mp3 is ok of posterity i guess
