https://youtu.be/b_GqrwmptWo?si=2XpCHzcrymysRrc4Although Nick James of thebiaslist.com, whose pop music taste is not a million miles away from mine, was decidedly lukewarm about this track in his weekly Jpop round up, I must say I love it - it's a great piece of dance pop. It's catchy, with a beat that you just have to move to, and in the final chorus there is ad libbing and a kick in of percussion to make the whole track satisfying.
The MV works well too. It's crammed with detail, so worth replaying with pauses, but doesn't seem cluttered; the co-ordination of colour and outfits helps keep it together. The choreography, executed with the help of back up dancers, is as good as that of a Kpop group.
In fact, this MV exists in that sweet spot where Korean and Japanese idol pop meet. I love it, I love it, I love it!

ILLIT sang "Almond Chocolate" as part of the OST for the Japanese film "It Takes More Than a Pretty Face to Fall in Love". Subsequently this MV was released.
Girl group synth /orchestral pop is absolutely my cup of tea, and I am not bothered by the vocal processing. The video is sweet too.

"Windy Day" features a meal al fresco; do those eating and their food and drink have to be on the ground for the meal to count as a picnic?
In any case, this MV is OMG at their best both musically and conceptually, combining the pretty and the quirky. I love it!

I'm not going to enter this for #KpopMonday #WaterFight ; although the MV does have an oceanic concept, it's vague and there is certainly no fighting in it. This stage preserves the vestige of that oceanic concept by means of the sea shell displayed on the backdrop.
So why am I posting this stage of "Last Sequence" ? Well, I like - or perhaps I should say liked - WJSN a lot and wanted to post something by them!
I thought of posting "Boogie Up", as it contains some water pistol play, but then I decided that the sequence was both toobrief and too much like that in APRIL -- Now or Never, which I had already posted. Then I thought of "Last Sequence", but the connection with this week's theme is too tenuous.
Nevertheless, it's a track I really like, with its vocals driving the dance pop sound forward. These outfits were my favourites from the comeback; at times, the WJSN stylist would give the group the best outfits in Kpop, although this comeback, strangely enough, did see one stage with the unlovely ripped jeans.
Sadly, I don't think there will ever be another group comeback to follow "Last Sequence", as some members have not renewed their contracts, and others now, quite understandably, seem devoted to following up on individual showbiz opportunities. I suspect too that Starship is now too focused on IVE and KiiiKiii to bother with WJSN.
What a shame! They are so talented and so beautiful! I do wish that Starship had not given up on them. "Last Sequence" indeed!

Every Sunday I look back at the preceding week in kpop and pick out a music video or performance that I have particularly liked. This week I have chosen Le Sserafim – Come Over.
Let me make it clear right away that I don’t think “Come Over” is a song for the ages. I don’t even think it’s the best song on the album, as I found both “Ash” and “So Cynical” more engaging musically; “Hot”, as so often is the case with Le Sserafim title tracks, left me cold. No – I’ve chosen this “Come Over” stage because of the choreography, which is strikingly different from the girl group norm. As a bonus, the wave hairdos look good and Eunchae (fun fur top) unselfconsciously confirms my belief that she is one of the prettiest idols.

Every Sunday I look back at the preceding week in kpop and pick out a music video or performance that I have particularly liked. This week I have chosen H1-KEY – Let It Burn
A number of releases and stages have caught my attention over the past week, so my choice has been more than usually difficult. Even though the rockish ‘Let it Burn’ is not my favourite H1-Key sound, I still like the song, especially the chorus, and this stage shows the group turning what I think is a strong live* performance. An additional point in this stage’s favour is the styling, free as it is of the MV’s Burberry school uniform look, and - thank heavens! - the oversized tartan carpenter’s overalls Yel was wearing on tonight’s Inkigayo.
* I’m never sure how “live” these stages really are, given the use of not just lipsysncing but also backing tracks, editing, and so on.
