When I ran my first half marathon (2010 or so), I was too close to the front of the pack and the gun went off and my iPod on shuffle starts me off with Julian Cope's Out of My Mind on Dope and Speed.
I managed to keep pace for about 48 seconds longer than I otherwise could have, but had to slip to the side and fall back...

At the risk of being too on-the-nose, I give you #Saliva's “Ladies and Gentlemen” from their 2007 album Blood Stained Love Story. Is this regarded as part of that wave of crap #NuMetal? Don’t care - it gets the blood pumping.
Some years back, quite possibly 2008 when the #RedSox came into the season as the reigning World Series champs, the Sox media folks used this track for a video montage that would play on the big screen at #FenwayPark. Pretty clear where the series of bat-smashing-ball shots were, right? And yeah, welcome to the showwww.
I wasn’t aware of Saliva before that, and have had no particular interest in following them since, but this song still reminds me of happy times at the ballpark, and being ready to [watch other people] battle for victory.
