The prompt is #vitriolSugar, “Slick” from Copper Blue (1992)
Often with these prompts, even though I know the word, I’ll look up its definition to be sure to get its flavor, its nuance. In this case, along with the emotional meaning of “vitriol” that I’m familiar with, was the description of metal sulfates that our host @krejgo alluded to kiiiind of snidely. Well, challenge accepted!
The vitriol copper sulfate, I find, is in the form of blue crystals. Enter #BobMould's #alternative band Sugar’s debut album, Copper Blue.
But wait - there’s more! In “Slick,” the narrator speaks from the aftermath of his desperation (and possibly alcohol) fueled car wreck. It goes through a series of dark emotions, including these lines just dripping with that OTHER kind of vitriol:
I hate your face I hate the wall
I'm sick of staring at the wall
I hate the mirror with alcohol -
