Nekus have been around since 2018, and I'm not sure how I missed this great record in 2024. It's another solid gem from Sentient Ruin Records, and a great way to plod into this new year. This is crushing, heavy death doom-- cavernous and dreary, even merging on funeral doom sometimes, but with great dynamics, riffs, and textures- sometimes slow, sometimes faster. Maybe ffo Spectral Voice - but I like Nekus much more.

I was going to save this for black metal Monday, as it's kinda black metal-y, but I'm posting it here today, as it's Bandcamp Friday, and literally the only way to get this album (even digitally) is to buy the CD. Which is kinda weird and gatekeepery, but I fucking LOVE Germany's GOATBLOOD, man, and I want them and the label to get all the money from my purchase today-- Goatblood's 2023 LP was one of my favorite 20 that year, and this one is just as damn good, if not better.

#ThursDeath this week is the excellent, crushing demo 'Sepulchral Incantations' by German duo CONJURATION. Speed variations from breakneck to doomy. Dark, brutal, about creatures being unleashed - everything good OSDM stuff should be. "Death metal from the depths of the Earth". Accurate. This 'demo' sounds better than most bands can manage to make a full length sound.

There's a punk band called Muell from Berlin and they put out this album Kunde last month. It's definitely on my top albums of 2023, it's so damn good. I mean, despite not understanding the lyrics as they're being sung (edit: thanks to @Aeneas for pointing out they're linked next to each song!) I can sit and just listen to the whole thing-- the energy and sound is GREAT!
