I have to say, this certainly seems like something designed to get in on a certain market rather than because it needed to exist. I guess I shouldn't begrudge them their smart business decisions — if it is smart, but it looks pretty uninspired.

"Flow Like So" is a synth-soaked ambient piece with accordion I composed in 2022. I put some finishing touches on it and then built this video with water footage from the Penticton, BC, Canada dam. It's mesmerizing, relaxing, chill.
For music nerds, the time signature is 7/4. The accordion is my musette tuned Weltmeister Achat. The synths sounds are all in GarageBand (the free Apple app) which just goes to show that possibilities are endless if you have a creative streak and like to play with sonic landscapes."

The VOD fest in Friedrichshafen sounds great! Unfortunately out of reach for me.
I also like and appreciate the synths meet & showcase.
It was at a similar event, maybe 20 years ago, in Cologne, that I had a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience with classic synths like the PPG, Jupiters etc.
That's the source of my header photo btw 🙂 -
I Got reminded on a mod I wanted to do for the Roland D-110.
It would consist of a mod board that sits between the The PCM ROMs and the main board that let's you dump and reload their contents, which would mean you could finally swap PCM samples in the synth engine (a feature missing for 40 years)
It'd be a lot of effort and involve some serious firmware reverse engineering if I wanted to pull it off so more than just me would need to be interested in the final result.

I've been really missing having a synthesizer whose design lends itself to a "set up and walk away for awhile" approach.
I looked hard at the Elta Music Solar 42, but decided against it because I need faster tuning. I also looked at the Neutral Labs Elmyra 2, which looks very fun, but the sound (while awesome!) isn't quite right for me atm. I already had an Erica Synths Syntrx II, which I enjoyed, but sold to @composergreg because he wanted it more. :)

My MIDI module for the turntable sequencer was designed to have an ideosyncratic approach to tuning, whereby notes for the ten switches are chosen by an equal distribution between an upper and lower note - often leading to what a friend called a "chromatic mulch" type of sound. I like(d) that it's actively avoiding any proper scales or keys.
However, for a couple of reasons - one, to collaborate with the said friend who's big into tunefulness, and two, to work on a remix which is also very "in key" - I e decided to add the option to restrict the notes to a set from a given scale. As it's all built round an Arduino it was easy to go in and add some new presets.
So, today's work at the studio was:
- making a spreadsheet to extract an array of midi notes from given notes of a scale
- work out how to access those as presets via the analogue controls on the midi moduleI've so far got:
- D minor ( chosen at random)
- F minor (the key of the track I'm remixing)
- B minor (from a randomly found webpage about how to get nice chord stabs for deep house)Quite pleased with how it sounds - still pretty weird sounding and difficult to do much deliberately (which I like) but a bit more accessible than before.
