As a lifelong devotee of this amazing band, I could not be happier with Bring On The Psychics.
Walter is still at the top of his game songwriting-wise, the guitars are still dope as hell, and it feels like they’ve found a comfortable groove in their old age.
They’re not looking back at Slip or Manic Compression; still being in the NOW as well as pushing forward, as opposed to trying to replicate those touchstone records.
This is the third album since they’ve reunited, and ALL three have been fucking fantastic.
It’ll be a sad day when Quicksand call it a day for good.

From the opening of 'War for My Mind' to lighter tracks to maybe one of my favorite songs of all time, 'Sleep the Night Away'. Over 30 years later, I still play this one regularly.

The first one that came to mind for me is Helmet's 'Wilma's Rainbow' from their 1994 record Betty. It's the intro track too, it start everything off.. Page is doing this kinda simple, chill guitar thing first, a couple times, and then the guitar, bass, and drums hit you full on in the fucking FACE. And then at the end, after the most insane solo you've ever heard, it has a false ending. Perfection. And then the REST of the record. 🤯

Been a long time since I listened to Meantime fully. This will determine whether this is my top album from 1992, or if it's Piece of Cake by Mudhoney, which I just did fully- and is another SERIOUS contender. These are my final two out of a larger list for '92, and this one is CLOSE, like some of the others. Some years are really tougher to figure out than others 😅

The Smithereens anthology 'From Jersey it Came' was released in September 2004. In 2004 I was 24. The Smithereens had been my favorite band for a while at that point, so this was a treat for a megafan like me. If you ignore the roughness of their super early stuff here, this is a really good primer for some of the Smithereens' best songs. It starts off with ones from their early days like their first single "Girls About Town" and it also includes basically all their later hits, a Springsteen cover, and an INCREDIBLE instrumental version of their tune 'If You Want the Sun to Shine'. The version of the song with vocals is killer, but without them is SO wild. Powerful orchestration and arrangement: https://youtu.be/e9-2KtmHpwc

#NowPlaying a throwback to the late 90s/early 2000s. Add N to (X) were a very strange, synthy, blippy electronic band that were only together for a few years at the middle/end of the 90s, and barely into the 2000s (they broke up in 2003). They made some catchy, weird songs.

I dig 'Monsters' from 1989 fully, but it's not an 'anytime' kind of record for me. So the first Meat Puppets record I find perfect - an 'anytime' album - is 1991's 'Forbidden Places'.
Has some real alt-country on this one (as most Puppets records do, it's not much, among the blazing guitars). From the first seconds and minutes of "Sam" - I mean, they still play this live. It is WILD. They Might Be Giants covered "Whirlpool". This album is rad, man. From "No Longer Gone" (which was my username on Twitter for many years) 🤣 to the title track, just legendary. Underrated?

I'm not usually big on remasters (unless it's a reMIX -- reMASTERS don't really do anything extra for the recordings) but this 'Wildflowers & All the Rest' deluxe version they put out in 2020 one has all kinds of extra songs (including home recordings and live stuff), so I'm going through it today and (of course) it's DAMN good. Yet another amazing record from 1994.
