La cosa se complica de forma radical cuando su carismático ex-marido, C.K Dexter Haven, vuelve a aparecerse de pronto trayendo con el a un cínico reportero de prensa rosa llamado Macaulay «Mike» Connor, que está infiltrado para cubrir la exclusiva del evento. En el transcurso de un día y una noche de enredos y excesos alcohólicos, el reportero se enamorará perdidamente de Tracy, forzándola a enfrentarse a sus propios prejuicios, a plantearse su inalcanzable postura ante la vida y descubrir a cuál de los tres hombres ama en verdad.
Comentario: La película brilla de forma eterna gracias a unos diálogos de ritmo milimétrico y punzante ingenio. Supuso además el salvavidas profesional de Katharine Hepburn, quien tras ser declarada «veneno para la taquilla» recuperó el control de su carrera produciendo astutamente la adaptación.
