  2. Highly recommended read - make sure to take a minute and file through @mjgiarlo's thread (linked below 👇🏽) for a #code4lib member perspective on the recent court case of OCLC v. Anna's Archive ...

And we couldn't agree more, this is just such a waste of energy, time, and resources - and to what end? To antagonise / alienate OCLC's customer base even more?

This is exactly why we are working hard to establish an equitable, fully open alternative to #OAbooks metadata creation and dissemination - with all metadata records released under a #CC0 public domain dedication (as they should!) #MARC #ONIX #KBART #MetadataMatters #DataReuse #Right2Remix

  7. 📢 HMC FAIR Friday Lecture Alert!

On 11/07/2025, 10 am, join #HMC FAIR Friday with Prof. Paul Groth @pgroth
    from the @UniversityofAmsterdam

He’ll explore how we can better support data reuse – and why the “distance” between creator and user really matters.

Dr. Maie Stein und Prof. Dr. Hannes Zacher von der #UniLeipzig möchten erreichen, dass andere Wissenschaftler:innen die Daten aus ihrer arbeitspsychologischen Langzeitstudie nachnutzen können. #datareuse

  12. Question regarding #dataReuse and #datasharing:

With my students, I scraped tweets on different topics relating to time frames up to October 2022. I am still making some of those data sets available for #teaching purposes and wonder if that's officially allowed, given the changes in Twitter/X's recent terms of use. I would appreciate some clarifications as I cannot find precise up-to-date information online. Most information I find still relates to the pre-Musk period and seems outdated.

  14. Today, @tabea from our team presented "From Data Creator to Data Reuser: Distance Matters", a new paper by Christine Borgman and Paul Groth in our local Journal Club. There's more to consider than just the FAIR principles when it comes to enable (research) data reuse. Recommended reading!

  15. Seeking help! Research data by/about/related to art history - who created it, who has it, who (re-)uses it? We only know so little! Yes, there's arthistoricum.net/. Yes, there are image metadata in LIDO XML. But: Who makes use of them for new research? Yes, there were a number of PhD theses on CIDOC CRM. Where's the data? Was the schema adopted? Has data been (re-)used, even outside art history? Please share your knowledge! #DigitalArtHistory #ResearchData #DataReuse #FAIRData

  16. This preprint observes a citation advantage of papers reusing more than one dataset, based on publications reusing ICPSR datasets:
    arxiv.org/abs/2402.05024

"Papers that used more than one dataset garnered 22%, 15%, and 15% more citations over 3, 5, and 10 years relative to papers that used a single dataset." The effect is higher for datasets that are rarely used in combination.

As always, free to access and reuse.

  19. This preprint analyses how and why social science datasets are cited.
    doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.2302.08

The authors developed a typology that covers the entities being referenced, as well as the structure and function of the reference.
They demonstrate that referencing data serves various purposes beyond re-analysis of data, for example providing readers with access to data or supporting empirical arguments.

  20. A slightly overdue #introduction

I mostly do freelance work in #data helping with strategy, governance and capability. Interested in #InformationScience and #CriticalDataStudies.

    I’m also a growing digital #archaeologist, interests include #DataReuse, #LandscapeArchaeology, #LateAntiquity and #DigitalHumanities.

Otherwise, I’m a #runner and #parkrun ED. A baker of sourdough. A former computational chemist, developer and civil servant. Will do almost anything for decent coffee and cake.
