  1. We were visited by Maria Hackl, a #music #archaeologist, who shed light on a fascinating recent discovery:
    a small medieval bone flute.

While there are many depictions of #medieval instruments, it’s far less common for the original objects to survive. Instrument makers used materials that were readily available — This flute was likely made from the leg bone of a goose!

  6. When we think about archaeologists in stories, it's usually the brave adventurer seeking long-lost worlds... but this can be culturally problematic today. That doesn't mean there's no stories to tell about things left behind. 🧵⬇️

  7. *#SouthAmerica's historic, highly efficient irrigated #agriculture*

    ...in #Bolivia.

The article, in my view, however, 👉grossly misstates the importance of the find:👈

"...#UmbertoLombardo, an environmental #archaeologist at the #UAB [#AutonomousUniversityOfBarcelona], has identified a 👉unique agricultural infrastructure previously undocumented anywhere else in the world.👈

This system enabled them to drain...

  8. Does anyone know if there is a #software that can take a bunch of images (inside a folder) and then create an #xls file with those images, together with exif data, so that each one is in its row? This is probably not the best explanation I can give, I know, but I'm attaching a pic of what I have in mind. I actually had such a little thing, written specifically for this purpose by a fellow #archaeologist, but I can't find it anymore 😕
    Boosts are appreciated 🙏

  9. Following the results of two digs late last year, the #NationalCapitalCommission is planning another #archaeological dig in a section of #LeBretonFlats — potential site of a new #NHL arena — this summer, seeking more #artifacts related to #19thcentury #Bytown .
Two #HistoricalSites were #investigated in Nov. on the north side of Albert St between Preston St & City Centre Ave, commission #archaeologist Monica Maika said in a statement.

  10. Thanks @cowman

Unfortunately #borax is prohibited for sale in UK and EU. Depending which parts of the internet you read this is either because of birth defects in rats, or else it’s a shadowy #conspiracy by Big #Slime.

We have #BoraxSubstitute, sodium #sequicarbonate, (sesqui is one and a half). Experiment 3 was sodium bicarbonate, but what’s half a carbonate between pals?

[What will a # added to BoraxSubstitute do? 10000 years from now a Mastodon #archaeologist will find towels?]
