Lots of my Perpetual Journal entries lately seem to be of birds...here’s a Ladder-backed Woodpecker, found in deserts in the SW US. We observe them fairly regularly in our Tucson, AZ yard (we rarely see Red Crossbills though).

Hab erfahren, dass die Männchen in verschiedenen Farben von Gelb über Orange bis hin zu Karminrot gefärbt sein können und eine rötlichere Färbung für einen guten Ernährungs- u. Gesundheitszustand stehen soll. Weibchen nutzen diese Info, um einen geeigneten Partner für ihren Nachwuchs auszuwählen. Dann hat dieser Prachtkerl wohl gute Chancen! Viel Vergnügen beim Geneverteilen!

On New Year’s Day we saw all of the “Big 3” mammals we frequently see in our Tucson, AZ, USA yard: a Bobcat, a Coyote & 16+ Javelina—so I painted 2 of the Javelinas in my Perpetual Journal. Last year’s PJ entry for the week was a Red Crossbill!
