  1. „People can live together in society only in an atmosphere of mutual trust, where they have reason to believe that others will speak the truth; by destroying the grounds for trust and inducing mass suspicion, widespread lying becomes the harbinger signaling the fall from social solidarity to chaos.“

Bhikkhu Bodhi, The Noble Eightfold Path: Way to the End of Suffering (1984).

  3. Upaya Zen Center’s "Awareness and Action" series:

Bhikkhu Bodhi offers a penetrating teaching on discernment as the heart of engaged Buddhism in times of crisis. He reflects on his journey from 1960s activism, through decades of monastic practice in Sri Lanka, and back into the realm of social engagement, emphasizing that “Buddhism must not remain cloistered within meditation halls; it must speak to the burning issues of our age”

How can we deal with this bizarre downward dip in the American political experience in ways that best embody the values we cherish, the qualities we discern in the exalted figure of the #bodhisattva

  8. ☸Anguttara Nikaya☸

    Reading strategy:
Although the number of points in the suttas is the organizing principle, within each chapter suttas are generally grouped by topic. So a start to finish reading is fine.

Another option is to follow #BhikkhuBodhi's topical guide to the collection. You can find an online version here: readingfaithfully.org/bhikkhu-

Similar to the SN, this collection works well by reading for a fixed amount of time or pages each day. 4 pages a day and you can read in a year.
