Fondements de la Pleine conscience

Il y a quatre fondements de la pleine conscience :

Contemplation du corps (Kāyānupassanā)

Contemplation des sensations (Vedanānupassanā)

Contemplation de l’esprit (Cittānupassanā)

Contemplation du Dhamma (Dhammānupassanā)

Le mot sati signifie pleine conscience. Paṭṭhāna fait référence à l’établissement ferme, comme une balle placée dans un creux qui ne roule pas mais reste stable. De même, la pleine conscience qui ne se disperse pas parmi divers objets mais est bien établie sur le corps, les sensations, l’esprit et les dhammas est appelée Satipaṭṭhāna.

Bien que la pleine conscience elle-même soit une, selon les bases sur lesquelles elle est établie, elle est divisée en ces quatre types. Par conséquent, on les appelle « les Quatre Fondements de la Pleine Conscience ».

Kāyānupassanā – Quand on ne saisit pas à tort le corps comme un soi permanent, mais qu’on contemple le corps tel qu’il est réellement – comme l’inhalation et l’expiration – la pleine conscience accompagnée de la sagesse qui le voit comme impermanent, etc., est appelée Kāyānupassanā.

Vedanānupassanā – Quand on ne considère pas à tort les sensations comme « soi », mais qu’on les contemple telles qu’elles sont réellement, et qu’on voit leur nature impermanente avec sagesse, cette pleine conscience est appelée Vedanānupassanā.

Cittānupassanā – Quand on ne considère pas à tort les divers états d’esprit (comme la luxure, la haine ou l’illusion) comme « soi », mais qu’on observe l’esprit tel qu’il est, en voyant sa nature impermanente avec sagesse, cette pleine conscience est appelée Cittānupassanā.

Dhammānupassanā – Quand on ne considère pas à tort les phénomènes mentaux tels que les obstacles comme « soi », mais qu’on les observe comme des dhammas, et qu’on voit leur apparition et leur disparition avec sagesse, cette pleine conscience est appelée Dhammānupassanā.

Pour celui qui recherche le Nibbāna, la pratique qui doit être entreprise comme point de départ est le développement de Satipaṭṭhāna. C’est le chemin direct menant à la libération.

Par conséquent, que les nobles qui souhaitent être libérés de la souffrance du saṃsāra entraînent leur esprit en pratiquant les Quatre Fondements de la Pleine Conscience !
