Phew yesterday was a busy day. First up, I went on @BBC5Live's Drive programme to chat to Clare Mcdonnell & Chris Warburton about #Apple finally implementing a direct "kill switch" that turns your #iPhone into a brick if you register it as lost.

It's great news, due to pressure from Sadiq Khan + the Met Police. Previously Apple hoped if criminals couldn't get your #AppleID credentials, all was good, but many people still don't lock their phones, or are using them when they are snatched, so criminals can bombard victims with phishing attempts to get their Apple ID passwords so they can remove the account & factory reset the phone.

Jak skonsolidować konta i subskrypcje w iCloud (i nie zwariować)

Koniec roku to ten moment, kiedy człowiek patrzy nie tylko na kalendarz, ale też na swoje subskrypcje. A jeśli – tak jak ja – od lat żyje się w ekosystemie Apple, to bardzo łatwo wpaść w pułapkę „rozproszonego Apple ID”. Coś kupione dawno temu, coś założone „na szybko”, coś przypisane do dziecka, coś do żony, a coś jeszcze do zupełnie innego konta, bo akurat tak było wygodniej. Do czasu.

U mnie sytuacja wyglądała następująco: czteroosobowa rodzina (żona + dwóch synów), jedno najstarsze Apple ID (jakoś nie mogę się przestawić na „Apple Account”), na którym od lat zbierały się aplikacje, filmy i muzyka, do tego Chmura rodzinna oparta właśnie na tym koncie. Apple TV+ też było „tu”, ale Apple Music już na koncie starszego syna, a dodatkowy dysk iCloud 2 TB… na moim prywatnym Apple ID. Efekt? Kilka rachunków, kilka kont i chaos, który z każdym miesiącem kosztował mnie nie tylko pieniądze, ale i cierpliwość.

Postanowiłem to uporządkować. I wbrew pozorom – da się to zrobić bez utraty danych i bez bólu.

Dlaczego konsolidacja ma sens (także finansowo)

Zacznijmy od liczb, bo one działają najlepiej na wyobraźnię:

• Apple TV+ – 34,99 zł
• Apple Music – 34,99 zł
• Razem: 69,98 zł
• Apple Arcade – nie miałem wcale
• iCloud 2 TB – 49,99 zł (tego akurat nie da się „obejść”)

Tymczasem Apple One (rodzinny) kosztuje 49,99 zł i zawiera:

• Apple Music
• Apple TV+
• Apple Arcade
• iCloud+

Dysk 2 TB i tak muszę dokupić osobno, bo Apple One ma zbyt mało miejsca w standardzie. Ale różnica między płaceniem osobno a pakietem jest oczywista – taniej i czyściej w rozliczeniach.

Najważniejsza zasada: jedno główne Apple ID

Jeśli chcesz mieć porządek, musisz wskazać jedno główne konto Apple ID, które będzie:

• organizatorem Chmury rodzinnej,
• właścicielem subskrypcji,
• kontem, z którego wychodzi płatność.

W moim przypadku był to najstarszy Apple ID – ten, na którym od lat są zakupy aplikacji i multimediów. I to właśnie na nim wszystko postanowiłem skonsolidować.

Jak działa konsolidacja w praktyce (bez strachu o dane)

To ważne:

konsolidacja subskrypcji nie oznacza konsolidacji danych.

Każdy członek rodziny:

• nadal używa własnego Apple ID,
• ma prywatne zdjęcia, backupy i pliki,
• korzysta tylko ze wspólnej puli usług i miejsca w iCloud+.

Pliki się nie mieszają, nikt nikomu nie widzi zdjęć. iCloud+ działa jak wspólny „limit”, a nie jak jeden folder.

Krok po kroku: jak to uporządkować

1. Na głównym Apple ID (organizator rodziny)

Na iPhonie lub iPadzie:

• Wejdź w Ustawienia
• Stuknij w [Twoje imię]
• Przejdź do Rodzina
• Wejdź w Subskrypcje
• Przy każdej usłudze (iCloud+, Apple Music, Apple TV+) włącz opcję „Udostępniaj rodzinie”

To jest moment, w którym mówisz systemowi: to ja płacę i ja udostępniam.

2. Na kontach, które mają własne subskrypcje

Jeśli ktoś w rodzinie (albo Ty na innym Apple ID) ma:

• własny Apple Music,
• własny Apple TV+,
• własny plan iCloud (np. 2 TB),

to trzeba je anulować:

• Ustawienia
• [Imię]
• Subskrypcje
• Wybierz usługę
• Anuluj subskrypcję

Po zakończeniu okresu rozliczeniowego pojawi się opcja:

„Używaj pakietu rodzinnego”.

Dane nie znikają. System po prostu przełącza konto na wspólny plan.

Co z danymi w iCloud? (najczęstszy strach)

• Zdjęcia, pliki, kopie zapasowe – zostają tam, gdzie są
• Każdy Apple ID zachowuje swoją prywatność
• Zmieniasz tylko sposób rozliczania miejsca

Uwaga praktyczna:

jeśli ktoś miał więcej niż 5 GB danych i anulował swój plan, a nie przełączy się na rodzinny, ma 30 dni, zanim synchronizacja nadmiarowych danych zostanie wstrzymana. To spokojnie wystarczy, by wszystko ogarnąć.

Apple One – jak to włączyć

Na iPhonie lub iPadzie

• Ustawienia
• [Twoje imię]
• Subskrypcje
• Wybierz Apple One
• Zdecyduj: Indywidualny lub Rodzinny
• Potwierdź Face ID / Touch ID

Na Macu

• Ustawienia systemowe
• Apple ID
• Media i zakupy
• Subskrypcje → Zarządzaj
• Wybierz Apple One i potwierdź

Co dzieje się z istniejącymi subskrypcjami?

Apple robi to wyjątkowo sensownie:

• indywidualne subskrypcje (Music, TV+, Arcade) są automatycznie wygaszane,
• niewykorzystany czas jest rozliczany proporcjonalnie,
• playlisty, biblioteki, ustawienia – zostają.

Zmienia się tylko jedna rzecz: kto płaci i z jakiego konta.

Podsumowanie: porządek, spokój i jeden rachunek

Po całej operacji:

• mam jedno główne Apple ID,
• jedną płatność miesięcznie,
• Apple One zamiast kilku subskrypcji,
• rodzinę, która niczego nie zauważyła… poza tym, że wszystko dalej działa.

Jeśli – podobnie jak ja – przez lata „zbierałeś” usługi Apple na różnych kontach, to naprawdę warto poświęcić godzinę, a nawet mniej, i zrobić z tym porządek. Nowy rok smakuje lepiej, gdy zaczyna się go z czystym Apple ID.

In 2017 I ditched #Apple and #MacOS cold-turkey and in one afternoon switched back to #Windows because I was pissed-off that the iMac Pro had a starting BASE price of $5000 (I needed to upgrade my 2013-era 27" iMac).

Before the lights had a chance to cool down at #WWDC that year I was already cancelling my #AppleID and not looking back.

For the SAME MONEY as it would have cost me to upgrade to that 27" iMac Pro back in 2017 I had replaced it with a 32" Microsoft Surface to replace my iMac, a 12" Surface Pro to replace my iPad Pro, a Google Pixel Phone to replace my phone, a Movi TicWatch Pro to replace my Apple Watch, some Pixel Buds to replace my AirPods.

I'm not kidding. When I divorce you I leave no remains.

And Windows has treated me VERY well for the past 8 years or so.

But this CoPilot/ AI shit is too much.

If only Microsoft had made all this AI crap OPTIONAL rather than forcing it down my throat I wouldn't be divorcing Microsoft for "Irreconcilable Differences".

But unlike when I divorced Apple (there's only ONE application for MacOS I truly miss) I legit need to run one or two Windows apps and frankly there is no Linux equivalent for them, or I can't find any Linux app that can natively open the documents since the format is proprietary (Pixelmator).

So here we are.

Just had a really poor support experience with #Apple

Logging into my #AppleID is possible using a #Passkey - great!

Except: I want to remove the passkey but I can't. Passwords app is showing Passkeys: 0. Now this is fun.

The behavior is reproducible with a fresh test user: login via passkey: yay

Show passkey in passwords app: nay

So no I am stuck with a passkey which is out of my control but which can be used to log into my AppleID.

In my book that is a serious concern, but Apple doesn't seem to care. They called back and told me they don't have any additional info. Then I never heard back. I also filed this via Feedback and never heard back.

Called them again today and they were not helpful. So what now? Migrating an Apple ID is possible but if you then delete the old Apple ID your tranferred purchases are no longer transferred.

All this feels really bad. This mess drove me to begin using #Linux Mint in my daily work and I am really liking it.

Tying to fix my parents' in law's apple stuff. They cannot access the appstore on their #iphone (running under an appleID), to get an app, because the #appstore app wants an appleID / #apple account #password - which they no longer know. They can log into their #macbook as a user (same appleID) with their mac_book_user_password
Do I understand it correctly:
they can choose a new #appleid #appleaccount password (to a access the appstore etc.) using the mac_book_user_password to #authenticate ?

@rmondello Great to see export / import added for passkeys ❤️

Having an interesting situation with an #AppleID: login with passkey on macOS 15.5 is possible using Safari 18.5 (20621.2.5.11.8).

But when I open Passwords app it says Passkeys: 0. I opened Safari Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data … and removed all data just to be sure all local data is removed.

Whether iCloud Passwords & Keychain > Sync this Mac is active or not, Passkeys always shows 0 entries.

When disabling Sync this mac, login via passkey is still possible via passkey in safari.

Major question is: where is the passkey? Seems likely it is somehow stored in Safari. But how would I go about deleting it?

Based on this happening yesterday to someone I know: if you get locked out of your Mac computer, maybe click the question mark button (not sure just when / where this shows up) instead of the "forgot password?” link.

Their computer spontaneously restarted, then rejected login. Going through the "forgot password?” process resulted in unending spinning wheel of doom. Finally started over, tried the “?” button, and got a *different* recovery screen which accepted their Apple ID. #macOS #appleID

Enable iCloud's ADP in the UK After the Ban

Download: Install the Librewolf browser and Proton VPN on your computer.
Connect: Use Proton VPN to connect to a US server. Create a new Apple ID in Librewolf, selecting the US as your region.
Switch Accounts: On your iPhone, log out of your current Apple account and log in with the new one.
You should now have access to ADP! Let me know if it works!
