It is important to distinguish the computations going on within the subject.
Technically, #VTE is a behavior of pausing attentively, orienting and re-orienting (as originally defined by Gentry, Muenzinger, and Tolman in the 1930s). But what we really care about are the neurophysiological computations that behavior is reflecting at the moment.
(We want to take the subject's POV, not the experimenter's.)There are currently (to my knowledge) two computations that have been shown to create attentive pause and reorientation behaviors (i.e. VTE).
(1) Sensory discrimination --- the subject is turning to focus sensory signals on sensory receptors.
(2) Planning systems --- the subject pauses to send hippocampal sweeps down the two options. What causes the reorientation is unknown, but I suspect that it is action chains that are halted.
Both the timing of each of these (in what situations they appear) and the neural circuits involved in each are different.

PS. Yes, mice and rats both definitely do VTE. Primates do a thing called SFS (saccade-fixate-saccade), which appears similar (likely with two meanings, much like rodents).

honestly this is just a pretty crap learnset
Double Kick and Horn Attack are the best things here; Fury Attack (expected value 15*3=45 but with only 85% accuracy reducing it to 38.25) is vastly outclassed by moves learned much earlier
but the silver lining is that it means I can easily give my Nidoking good HM moves
(technically this is Nidorino's learnset; Nidoking's is just Thrash at 23)

Big Event This Weekend
There is a big deal happening this weekend. It’s been four years in the making. I guess technically it has been 22 years in the making but it’s the last four that really count.
My step son, Harry, is graduating from college! The University of Vermont’s commencement weekend festivities kick off tomorrow and I am so proud of Harry that I legitimately fear that I am going to spontaneously combust. Like, ka-boom and stuff. He has grown up to be such a fine human. Brilliant, kind, a deep seated hatred of donald trump the orange shit clown. He’s a far better man than I am, and this weekend is all about him. A Bachelors Degree in Psychology. Good work, Harry!
We’re heading up to Vermont as soon as I punch out of work tonight. I can’t wait to spend the weekend celebrating Harry and his accomplishment. It’s going to be a great time… even though… the forecast is calling for rain during the Sunday morning outdoor commencement ceremony. That might suck. Everything else though, I can’t wait!

I have a very specific use case for @logseq And it's been a blast using it. If I could synchronize it efficiently with my tablet. (I know technically you can, but it's not there yet) I'll use it for other purposes.
You search for other tools like that? There's Zettlr, NextCloud Note with Iotas or extended with OwnNote. NextCloud Collective is becoming quite good. And of course DokuWiki is a grand old favorite.

Death Whistles the Blues is a very early film (1964) by notorious Spanish director Jess Franco and for those who are only familiar with his later output this one will come as a surprise. It’s a technically well made movie that demonstrates that Franco was quite capable of making conventional movies with conventional narratives.
And it's a film noir. A pretty good jazz-fueled film noir.

#newguy alert: I'm drinking from the "Podcast 2.0" podcast fire hose at the moment, and one of the early concerns was basically hijacked/cloned content finding its way into the index.
I read with some interest the existence last year of https://contentauthenticity.org/ as potentially technically useful in this regard, but I don't necessarily know if that group is a good/bad fit. I'll just leave that at that.

#SomethingWild, 1961, starring #CarrollBaker (#Lolita) is ultimately a perverse story with a wtf ending.
It's artistically and technically well done, but it's fundamentally a toxic mess that could have been an interesting psychological drama, instead.
A good thing is there are more #Black people naturally in the background than in most #movies and #tv #shows set in #NewYork today.
Also good to see familiar faces like #EdithStapleton, #DorisRoberts, and #CliftonJames in bit parts.

I guess old farts like me who still actually watch #OTA #antenna #TV either need to get set-top tuners or new TVs by July 2027.
I've had this Panasonic plasmabeast since the last time free TV broadcast standards changed. The picture is still really good (especially for something that's technically only 720p-ish).

To head off anticipated objections "but PEP 761 doesn't *mandate* using #GitHub or #Google": Technically true, but there's no open implementation #Python is willing to rely on today.
PEP 761 steps *backward* from open technology (though imperfect) to a closed platform (even more imperfect).
If #SigStore were a good idea, it should not have replaced existing open implementations until it also has reliable open implementations. If that's infeasible, why switch to it?

I'm also sure Gerry quite rightly thought that a vertical landing looks way better on camera as with the later Thunderbirds 1 & 2 (which always manage to fire their descent engines about a minute too late to do any good, but that's a separate issue). It just irks slightly that it manages to take off horizontally, which it technically arse about tit. Think Space Shuttle 🙂

Took my youngest through the data detox ( datadetoxkit.org ) + had a really thorough conversation about data, privacy, tech and so forth as a Christmas holiday activity.
Good news: the point was taken + understood
Bad news: my 12 yr old is literally the last kid out of 25 in the class to not have #Snapchat (technically only permitted for 13+ kids in Denmark)It's surprising to me that so many parents have such a cavalier attitude to their kids on SoMe, but maybe not so surprising that they've never talked to kids at school about #privacy, #DataProtection and such like. Perhaps, most people just don't think about it? The focus, where they have had #TechLiteracy lessons, has tended to be on bullying, scams and grooming, which is maybe fair enough.
But they seem already at school to be locked into an idea of "the internet" that is controlled by US tech corporations + walled gardens, rather than really understanding what the net is. -

Something tells me Felix has watched Disney's Beauty & the Beast approx 13927400271 times. SAME HAT MY DUDE. (I see a comment mentioning it's his fave movie. Taste, Felix. *Taste*.)
But fr #Unfair is such an homage to specifically that telling of the tale (name-dropping Gaston and Belle? Lololol) with himself cast as the Beast that I wish I could ask him (gently!) his mental space behind the association and what it means to him. Like, off the record, wouldn't tell anyone else if that's what he needed.
Side note, if the Beast's human form was as handsome-pretty as Felix is, I would probably object a lot less to, you know, his human form. (I mean these days I can look at his human form and go "kudos to the artists for accurate if still idealized royal line facial features in Europe considering The Hapsburgs et al" but damn if I still don't think he's more handsome as the Beast. I always have. 😆🤣)

I made a Horsey Marcheschi and a nice brown circle today... well technically its a few days in the making, as I also pulled the glass and mixed the phosphor and poured it in an all.
These are new colors. Totally custom! I really should start taking better notes- its just tricky when people have a bin of different colors of bar for free- who knows what is what? I guess photo journal.
Now I really want a silver and gold version of this- making amber and pink respectively. I think I also want another funnel- I think I am getting cross contamination.
I am thrilled, and so is Ali. I think we are gonna blow glass on Monday and I shall help her make some carafes and trophies and things and she will pull some tubes with me! I am excited!
I guess I should just go ahead and coat a bunch of tubes to bake out. I shall use the mixes while they are good.

Any other folks use and/or enjoy the English idiom fair-to-middling?
We like that it conveys the idea that something isn't good, but not entirely awful, whilst sounding rather pleasant.
e.g.,
Person 1: "How are you doing today?"
Person 2: "Eh, fair-to-middling."Not sure if it technically counts as litotes, but it very much has the same feeling as litotic idioms like "not bad" or "could be worse".
Simultaneously, it sounds to our neurospicy mind like someone's paying the fare (transport cost) to travel to a quaint town called Middling 🤭
Indeed, the idiom is sometimes still misinterpreted as "fare to Midland".
We just think it's neat 🤭
