Here's something the fedi will enjoy... I got #linux running on my old chromebook!
This is my first plunge into running/tinkering with Linux, and I was a bit scared (especially flashing custom firmware to run Coreboot) but the process proved easier than expected. Thanks to the #chrultrabook project, Mr Chromebox for the custom firmware, and @vkc for your instructional video; all helped ease my nerves.

Seattle is wild because along the same street you'll see a badass genderfluid person who doesnt GAF about someone making some mysogenistic comment on their outfit or appearance, and an insecure tech bro using his #Amazon badge as a yo-yo for attention.
The true dichotomy of urban life.

This was not hard to predict. #Data governance needs to go beyond a data entry for "Reason?" as that is clearly too vague. If #California wants to continue deploying and operating #ALPR technology, we need #datagovernance and accountability NOW.

Recent update from #metr #AI research finds that models are increasingly "reward hacking" complex problems presented to them instead of actually solving them. Interesting to read the model's admittance to purposefully gaming the system. Metr has good dialogue on protecting #CoT reasoning threads going forward too. #OpenAI knows of this hacking, and uses other models as judges to eval CoT to detect hacking. Can this not be trained out?

Jumping on the #TuneTuesday train and sharing a song that matches the theme #AtDawn
This song is off of #Goose 's new release "Everything Must Go" and is all about persevering and seeing the light in whatever is coming next. Relaxing enough to be perfect material watching the sun rise straight out of bed, but energizing and inspirational enough to get you excited about the day.
Enjoy "Red Bird": https://youtu.be/H1ZxljfyLJQ

I think an undervalued/underdiscussed aspect of #BRT is it's ability to take detours onto other surface streets when maintenance is required on the dedicated ROW. My G Line bus just took a right turn onto the parallel arterial road as crews did some work on a section of the busway. Lightrail (well, at least the way we construct it in NA) would have been OOS or delayed.
Obv the maintenance should just be avoided, but this is a nice plus.

Don't know when this was approved, but California State Parks are now officially using #Flock ALPRs at their parks to track visitors.

TIL there is an open source project creating APIs and data frameworks for micro-mobility within cities called the Mobility Data Specification (#MDS). Complete with APIs for the provider to provide operational info/stats, and for the local government, providing geofence data and other operational requirements.
They say it can be used for scooters, bikes, carshare, and even delivery robots. Neat.

Where can I find the data sources for the Cal OES #FIRIS plane burn maps? I know they are displayed live on Watch Duty, but I am curious where that map is sourced... Is there an API I can make requests to in order to get the shapefile or coordinates? Am I able to access previous burn maps? Doing a research project that this would be very helpful for.

Great bill proposed by Senator Ed Markey around regulating AI to ensure algorithmic justice for vulnerable communities. The requirements outlined seem like they should be the bare minimum.

In a #networkscience class this semester specifically focused on urban contexts... only our second week in and we are discussing closeness/betweeness centrality, edge betweeness, and how all of this relates to transportation networks. Very broad, tough to grasp concepts for a beginner like me, but a real world example of edge weight regarding roads before and after floods made it all click for me. Can't wait for more!

So I don't know how this slipped by, but #Metrolink 's Arrow service is suspended until further notice because the #DMU's airbrakes are out of federal compliance?? WTF?!
"...the air brake maintenance on all three operating Arrow Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) is out of federal compliance, rendering all three sets inoperable per regulation. Unfortunately, as a result, beginning tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 2, Arrow service will be suspended until further notice."
