My next #NetworkScience project is about scaling #tagspub.

If you follow a hashtag in Mastodon, the number of people that provide potential content to you is total number of people on your server plus the total number of unique people followed by everyone on your server.

If you follow a tags.pub account, the number if people that provide potential content to you is the total number of unique people that provide content to tags.pub -- through relays or the followback bot.

Unfortunately the end of semester assignment for my #NetworkScience class is due the day after the #wmhack hackathon is over. I've been working on it in the morning and evening, and I haven't had time to see Milan at all. So, I changed my flight home from Monday to Wednesday, and I'll take a couple of days to be here in the city itself.

As part of my #NetworkScience work in my masters degree program, I have been thinking about how to do some analysis on Fediverse data. I was so impressed to see that there is a data set, #FediData, with anonymised data from the Fediverse.

Et là un collègue me propose de co-diriger une thèse entre #Mathematiques et #PhysiqueStatistique. Et tout ça avec que des gens super sympas et intéressants !

Ça va pas alléger ma charge de travail tout ça, mais quand même ça fait plaisir de pouvoir participer à des travaux aussi variés.

Hi Fediscience! I am an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (Honolulu). I got here starting from Physics training with many scientific detours into data-driven models, complex systems, nanomaterial self-assembly, human learning of complex networks, naval ships, and design problems.

In a #networkscience class this semester specifically focused on urban contexts... only our second week in and we are discussing closeness/betweeness centrality, edge betweeness, and how all of this relates to transportation networks. Very broad, tough to grasp concepts for a beginner like me, but a real world example of edge weight regarding roads before and after floods made it all click for me. Can't wait for more!

Embracing a shift towards networked thinking in curatorial practices, the project utilized network analysis and graph algorithms to navigate digital collections, creating an exhibition named KUNST(re_public). So happy to finally see this collaboration with Rion Correia and @alainbarrat out. The distance backbone is a unique, algebraically-principled network subgraph that preserves all shortest paths. We were were excited to find out (with #sociopatterns and other data) that the backbones of #socialnetworks contain large amounts of redundant interactions that can be removed with very little impact on #communitystructure and #epidemic spread.
