The time has come and I'm beyond excited 😁
We just opened registrations on catodon.rocks.
I know that Catodon created a lot of expectations when Firefish fell apart, and I'm sure many of you were disappointed to see it not going anywhere for a long time. This time I am doing it on my own, so things will happen the way they should have. And, although you can now check it out for youselves, I will say this: I firmly believe that it's better, on every level, than Firefish ever was. I was in both projects, I love them both, but Catodon combines the best features of Firefish and Sharkey, while also being very debloated, being much more comprehensible, and adding actually useful stuff - and I have more plans for the future.
I'd love to hear your feedback on the UX of Catodon, and see how we can improve it further! Let's create the fedi experience we deserve =)

#LLM tools let you write code faster, but LOCs has NEVER been the bottleneck to value. The bottleneck is organizational coherence.
Instead of working towards that alignment, we are encouraged to "just #AI it." The result? AI makes everyone work MORE, with no real productivity gains.
Teams need to get better at choosing more valuable work to do. For that, you need #UserResearch. And user research can only happen at a human pace.

You want to add a new card to your Apple wallet? Sure, go ahead! You'll need a 6-digit code to verify yourself, just a sec.
Oh, you're an _additional_ cardholder? Well then you will need a Letter of Introduction, handwritten using a peacock quill on vellum, sealed with wax with your liege's insignia and delivered by horseman to the bank's headquarters in Rome.

Volkswagen wiper pit. Whoever designed this was from a warmer climate or just not very thoughtful. Totally stupid and difficult to de-ice.
Parking in frost, you normally lift the wipers off the windscreen, which you can only do if you remember to put them into parking position manually when switching off the ignition.
This doesn't prevent the buildup of ice in the wiper pit though, just makes it easier to hack away.
And even worse, if they ever activate while lifted, the arms crunch into the hood 🤦♂️

Some non-US company needs to build a hardware phone set around Postmarket OS and just 'get on with it'. There's an obvious appetite for something other than Google Android or Apple iOS phones.
I mean, the OS is there just waiting; throw some professional engineering effort around power management, cameras, and UX and it's a good jump into a practical, commodity phone that is open with a lot of heavy lifting already done. If that corp was practical and ethical it even could be a decent technology and social "good".
In Canada I'd hope a company like BlackBerry could do something like this but, do they even make hardware anymore, do they exist in the mobile space? If they exist would they even still have the talent to pull off something like this?
It doesn't have to be an expensive premium device, it just needs to be decent enough, affordable device with open software like an unencumbered browser, tethering, ability to run Signal...

#rant and a question
I don't understand why so many books use completely unhelpful headings on each page?
E.g. I'm just reading #bellhooks "the will to change" (which is a good book i can recommend)
On even pages the heading is the title, on odd pages the heading is the author.
This is completely unhelpful and really bad #UX
I know which book I'm reading and usually also the author (and during reading both is actually mostly irrelevant).
I would rather have the section or chapter information on the heading. Why are these headings so common in books? Is this a convention or has a reason i don't see?

So...
Y'all gotta be very careful what you say around your 🪿
We were just doing a bit of a redesign on the detective case interface. They're more for them these days, just a focusing function and a way of sharing context between agents.
Did y'all know a really smart lady learned a long time ago that the right way to teach something is to lead through small, tasty, intellectual morsels? Breadcrumbs through the forest of ignorance
Smart lady
Anyways, me and the 🪿 see, we was talking about maybe getting to finally cleanup the /leaves/ out back of the /house/ before heading to the /book/ store and well... then we got chatting about the redesign
And well, you can see the result
And I, like the immortal blue buffalo, need a hair cut
