  1. Let's try this #introduction thing here.

👋 Hi, I am rokku, a 39+ old human in the #autistic and #adhd spectrum. As a person I behave as a #INTJ or #5w6. I don't use a #gender for me but I know there are a lot of them #agender #nonbinary. If you are talking to me, I prefer you not using pronouns but my name. If you want to use pronouns then use xe/xem/xyr.

I am #sysadmin for life and #polyglot #developer for 20+ years. I love #selfhosting things. I work in the #hosting business. I was formerly #selfemployed and plan to do so again.

I do #debian servers and #arch for my workstation. All other distros are bad, especially #ubuntu (yes i know its from debian but with ugly things in it)

My beloved languages are #perl, #raku and #nim. But I do much more of them like #cpp, #java, #python, #rust and what not. I like compiled languages which give you the ability to shoot you in the foot, because this is the way we learn things.

I like #old #school things, how we did it in the past. I did not stay behind, but new things must proof themself.

For me #respect needs to be earned and is not given for free. I am only interested in people that esteem me and so do I.

My #vocation is #IT and all the stuff around it.

I'm a former member of the pirate party germany (#Piratenpartei Deutschland). I was member of the Landesverband Bayern as a General Secretary and Treasurer. I am founder of the #Bezirksverband #Mittelfranken and also member of the board as a General Secretary.

Not enough, I am a #metroidvana, #megaman, #dragonball #nerd and #gamer starting with an Super NES console long time ago. I prefer the #xbox over the #playstation. I prefer games like #blasphemous, #warframe, #newworld, #doom and much more as I even could write here.

In my spare time I like to do things with #3D #printing

  4. 🌀 What if removing some structure led to better outcomes?

A curious inversion, I agree. But that’s the charm of the Headstand Strategy, flip the premise, reveal the problem.

We speak of agility as freedom, yet wrap our teams in rituals: OKRs, alignment meetings, performance dialogues, endless standups, grooming, planning, retros. Conversations about conversations. Calendars filled with the idea of progress. The actual work? Squeezed between context switches and corporate theatre. I totally get the idea, but the side effects are ignored.

You're already saturated with management frameworks. Now imagine holding a developer role, expected to contribute meaningfully while navigating that same maze. The room to breathe, to create, to care about the product… vanishes.

And then comes the lament: Why is no one passionate anymore?
    Perhaps because passion requires space.
    Thinking needs silence.
Excellence isn't summoned in overbooked sprints.

More oversight doesn't mean more output.
More process doesn’t mean more progress.
If everything is a priority, nothing is.
And if every hour is scheduled, don't expect spontaneous brilliance.

As a wise colleague once said:
"I'm exhausted by alignment, OKRs, and performance talk. I just want to build something great and support your product with my knowledge. Let me."

So before you launch the next initiative, consider:
Are you enabling growth and skills, or just optimizing for control?

  5. Can someone #help me with the language here-- when I click on "create a starter pack" at Fedidevs, it says "Write permissions will be requested to be able to follow accounts on your behalf." What does this mean? I am not a developer---I persist by asking for help, but I'm often frustrated by the lack of clarity for n00bs on this platform, even though I've been using Mastodon for many years! I'm trying to get my peers to undertake #MastonMigration but often I'm confused!

  15. As a developer with 40+ years in the backpack, I'm thinking my next project will only accept dates as YYYYMMDD (and YYYY-MM-DD), and force usage of 24h time. I may, possibly, allow for dates to be *displayed* as DD-MMM-YY (or -YYYY) ... 🤔

This is my silent revenge on y'all for not pushing for standardizing on the only logical date and time formats 😎 😉 🤓

  23. Hello! 👋 I believe an #introduction is in order…

    I’ve been in #infosec for over 17 years 😀

Most of my career has been in offensive security. I started out as a pentester and did a lot of #redteam stuff (before #redteaming was red teaming), #physicalsecurity, #networksecurity, and was even a developer for a short period of time 😬. Got the #appsec bug until I moved into management/leadership roles. But #appsec is still my “technical” passion. I’m currently the AVP of Consulting at Bishop Fox where I lead several teams of super talented and amazing hackers! 🦊

While I was getting into pentesting, I did a bunch of research on the security and privacy of social networks right around the time social was in its infancy (circa 2008). Got to speak about that at a bunch of conferences back in the day which allowed me to meet some amazing people (including many of the OG #sectwits). That was around the time I also got into #podcasting and started the Social Media Security Podcast which later became @sharedsecurity. I’ve been podcasting for over 13 years now!

I admit I was more of a lurker on the birdapp but mostly because I found real engagement difficult plus I wasn’t a fan of the toxicity (especially more recently). So far Mastodon feels very different and almost like the original birdapp before algorithms and the mess we see today.

    Anyway, I’ll be tooting about #offensivesecurity #appsec #cybersecurity #privacy #leadership #careers #podcasting and probably #cats. I happen to have 5 of them! 😺

  24. I started a work #journal today. I'm hoping it will help me digest the challenges and victories of each day, celebrate and remember my wins, put failings in perspective, and better enable me to learn from mistakes. Hopefully this will help me progress as a #developer.
I'm using the #penzu app, but I noticed the search function doesn't search in text. Can you recommend a better web app for this purpose? Rich text support preferred
