  1. @jack_daniel Welcome back to Mastodon, where all the Cool Kids come to play.

Many of the OG #sectwits are also in the federation. :flan_wave:

  2. Dear #sectwits . Does anyone know if k8em0 has moved over to Mastodon yet? She has a counter.social account, but as the name implies, it's a bit ... anti-social towards the rest of the federated network.

  3. Hello! 👋 I believe an #introduction is in order…

    I’ve been in #infosec for over 17 years 😀

Most of my career has been in offensive security. I started out as a pentester and did a lot of #redteam stuff (before #redteaming was red teaming), #physicalsecurity, #networksecurity, and was even a developer for a short period of time 😬. Got the #appsec bug until I moved into management/leadership roles. But #appsec is still my “technical” passion. I’m currently the AVP of Consulting at Bishop Fox where I lead several teams of super talented and amazing hackers! 🦊

While I was getting into pentesting, I did a bunch of research on the security and privacy of social networks right around the time social was in its infancy (circa 2008). Got to speak about that at a bunch of conferences back in the day which allowed me to meet some amazing people (including many of the OG #sectwits). That was around the time I also got into #podcasting and started the Social Media Security Podcast which later became @sharedsecurity. I’ve been podcasting for over 13 years now!

I admit I was more of a lurker on the birdapp but mostly because I found real engagement difficult plus I wasn’t a fan of the toxicity (especially more recently). So far Mastodon feels very different and almost like the original birdapp before algorithms and the mess we see today.

    Anyway, I’ll be tooting about #offensivesecurity #appsec #cybersecurity #privacy #leadership #careers #podcasting and probably #cats. I happen to have 5 of them! 😺

  4. My #introduction 👋🏻

I'm Keith. I'm an Arkansas native and proud to still call it home.

I'm a GRC specialist. Blessed to be the GRC Manager, Healthcare. I've been a consultant & vCISO. I specialize in building effective security programs that auditors love. I'm also a policy wonk and advocate of controls.

I'm a former Network Engineer and came up through Service Management.

I've been on the bird site since it was SMS only and followed a handful of #sectwits back in my Vegas/Blackhat days.

But I do way more than infosec. I'm a weather geek, a Disaster Relief volunteer, & an Arkansas Razorbacks fan. I love to go hiking & kayaking and I'm blessed to have 2 amazing kids.

Thankful to have found this place and keep up with old friends and make new ones.

    #GRC #Razorbacks #Arkansas

  5. @meneer ultimately yes, but first provide a beacon to draw a 15 year old community back together.

localhost is still 127.0.0.1 for a lot of people - give them a way to find ::1

    #sectwits #infosec

  6. Just enabled a new pinned column in the "advanced web interface" for my #sectwits feed.

    Feels like 2009 again :flan_hug:

  7. @Myrcurial @kriggins ah, back in the day when our following list was a group we could read every tweet from, and used #sectwits to find folks!

  8. @Myrcurial @kriggins Wow! I totally forgot about our burgeoning #sectwits from back in the day when Twitter was fresh and full of hope.

  9. Let’s try this… if you were there, populate the #sectwits hashtag with me.

    Do it for @kriggins

Maybe he’ll smile down on us.

  10. Anyone else caught in a 15 year old time warp back to late 2007 / early 2008 hoping that we are going to recapture the community that was #sectwits all over again?

Many of those originals are no longer with us but that time represents to me one of the real growth parts of my professional (and personal) life.

Is it even possible to give the next round of growing professionals access to that amount of community / knowledge-sharing / access to expertise and experience?
