35 years ago, the future looked like this: Bugatti ID 90 Concept, 1990, by Italdesign. Giugiaro’s proposal for the relaunch of the brand by Bugatti Automobili S.p.A. featured a very elongated glass dome contained within a single rounded curve. The car was surprisingly compact at 4.1 m in length and 1.84 m wide. The style of the alloy wheels was a homage to the Bugatti Royale of 1926. The Mastodon web client is one of the best ways I've experienced for interaction with Mastodon itself on a generic Linux machine, but blimey, does it have a memory leak!
Left it open on my laptop, it has gobbled about 48% of system RAM according to `top`'s %MEM column (not sure if this includes swap).
The machine has 8GB RAM and 32GB swap. It took 10 minutes for Firefox to react to a close instruction.
It usually starts consuming lots of memory after 6 hours of observing the main feed: the problem is much worse if viewing videos (silent "GIF"s or otherwise).

The paperWasp I took in yesterday can’t seem to fly. I let her be outside on the jasmine plant for a while, but she appeared eager to come back to her safe container. So, I took her back inside. There are too many birds here (because I offer a few cups of birdseeds) and not safe for a disabled insects.
Anyway, she just ate some apple and went to rest on begonia flower. 🌺🐝

This evening, I was chatting up this blue dragonfly to perch on my fingertips at Fells’ forest, which they did twice, but didn’t stay on long enough for a photo. I love how some of them are so friendly. I was telling them how I could summon some mosquitos for them to snack. lol

Ce matin, je me disais que j'allais me débarasser de Spotify (parce que j'écoute essentiellement de la musique quand je travaille de chez moi, et que dans ce cas je peux faire de l'UPnP). Hélas ! J'utilise Plex comme serveur UPnP, et je tombe pile dans ce bug !

So far there is only one coneflower blooming in the garden. It has attracted hordes of 1) carpet beetles (which feed on pollen as adults); 2) thrips; and 3) minute pirate bugs and 4) whirligig mites, which both eat the thrips.

OK, sequel to my post almost exactly 1 year ago about milkweed pollinia…I discovered something amazing!
I was looking at some milkweed plants that had just started flowering and noticed a honeybee trying to get its leg unstuck from a flower. Because it's Peak Anystid, there were also many whirligig mites running around on the flowering umbels. These mites almost never stay still, yet one *was*. Could it also be stuck? YES! It was struggling to get out.
I looked carefully at more of the flowers and found a dead whirligig mite, also with its leg stuck in a flower.
I wonder how many other arthropods accidentally fall prey to the flowers?!

Bei strahlendem Sonnenschein wurde jetzt der Großteil des ehemaligen BUGA-Geländes auf Spinelli wieder für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht.
