Read my Poem “Sit Down” Published by the Mourning Paper
I recently had my poem “Sit Down” published by the Mourning Paper.
They are a gothic, dark literary magazine that releases a variety of work from various writers. They have lifestyle, literature, and poetry, which is where I factor into this equation.
The poem that was published was called “Sit Down” and it is most certainly a horror poem. It is about a little girl ghost who imprisons families at a dinner table inside the house she used to live in. Recently, I’ve been exploring the concept of ghosts and the dead having motivation for their hauntings. I have been trying to experiment with the human reasons these nonhuman entities might have. I just never liked the idea of ghosts being mindless or emotionless plot devices in media.
You can read “Sit Down” on the Mourning Paper right here.
As always, with these posts about publications I highly suggest you read the rest of the material this fine publication has to offer. I don’t want to just promote these places because they published me or support literary horror. Too many literary magazines like the Mourning Paper are undervalued, and I don’t want them to vanish into obscurity. As I submit my work to many different lit magazines I see them vanishing into nothingness fairly often.
So please explore and support the Mourning Paper here.
Thank you for reading my work and have an amazing day!

READ MY WORLD KICK-OFF
Tolhuistuin, Saturday, June 13 at 12:00 PM GMT+2
On June 13, we’ll kick off the Read My World 2026 season. An afternoon where stories from the Moluccan and Papuan diasporas come together.
You’ll move among books and creators, voices and conversations. Indoors and outdoors, everything blends together. You’ll linger at a (poetry) reading, strike up a conversation, hear music drifting through the garden, and before you know it, a few hours will have passed.
Aca Siwabessy will present her book PADEDE, in which she brings together personal and collective stories from the Moluccan community.
Throughout the day, there will be live music, a workshop, and food.
At the book market, you’ll find Bijlmer Bookstore, Boekhandel de Duif, Coolzone, Fort van Sjakoo, Hard//Hoofd, and Noon, among others, with information booths from Marinjo/Malib and the Papoeahuis.
Read My World is platform voor het geschreven en gesproken woord uit de hele wereld.

In one of my required Uni English courses, we read Kurt Vonnegut’s short story “Harrison Bergeron.”
If you haven’t read it yet, I cannot recommend it enough. I don’t want to spoil it so I’m not going to even talk about the plot. I will say:
I still think about it often. I go through the themes in my head. It’s just such a marvellous piece of dystopian satire.

Read the harrowing testimony of Ahmad Mhanna, former director of Al-Awda Hospital in northern #Gaza, who survived 22 months in Israeli detention.
We will continue to document these systemic abuses, including Israel’s widespread use of torture and other ill-treatment against #Palestiniandetainees.
