  1. While it seems logical that the continental crust is thicker under large mountains such as the Himalayas, why is it also so thick under Greenland and Antarctica? Mountains there aren’t as tall.

  2. This is logical, but also makes me laugh, but the Snipping Tool button on the new Surface Laptop is just a rebadged Print Screen button? Was playing around with one of those in Best Buy today and disabling the Snipping Tool functionality seems to bring back functionality you'd expect from Print Screen. So the toggle was so they could re-use the key? If so, it's sparking memories of the LinkedIn keyboard shortcut story a year or so back. theverge.com/2023/9/15/2387479 #SurfaceLaptop7 #Windows11

  3. CW: person A + person B and logical fails

    B -> Highlighting logical fallacies is #chauvinistic.

    A -> Huh?!

    B -> #Fallacies come from a belief in the fallus - dickism.

    A -> P.H. phallus. Fallacies is like fails.

    B -> PH or not, thats just spelling. the connection with phallic is Interesting.

    A -> But fallacies don't come from phallic.

    B -> That's just an appeal to tradition fallacy.
    We can make fail and phallus connect, and show how chauvinistic they are!

  4. The next logical step in my evolution was to add vocals, and Blood and Blackouts would prove to be my most accessible release with its highly distorted riffs and vocals. I regret the industrial nature of the growls but it was as far as I was willing to go given my trepidation of being trans and singing at the time under my name.

    Listeners have often referred to B&B as “essential.”

    Highlights:

    “Mania”
    “Blood and Blackouts”
    “Divine Right”
    “Narcissus”

  5. "Rather than inserting logical bugs, adversaries can attack the encoding of source code files to inject vulnerabilities.

    These adversarial encodings produce no visual artifacts.

    The trick is to use Unicode control characters to reorder tokens in source code at the encoding level."

  8. We've found that logical thinking developed in garages serves everywhere else. Breaking complex challenges into manageable pieces, testing solutions, iterating until success.
    Share this with someone whose building logic helps them excel outside workshops. These abilities are completely transferable.
    How has motorcycle building improved your problem-solving elsewhere? Garage work teaches practical intelligence.

  9. @Tryphon it seems logical to me that any blackmail that really affects a politician's decisions would be made in person, under carefully controlled conditions, so there's no way they can be proven. Also, those making veiled threats can presumably still choose to destroy someone's life and career even years later, if they speak out, assuming they have to power to follow through on them in the first place. FWIW #JohnPerkins 'Confession of an Economic Hitman' talks about this exact issue.

  13. Having fun with logical types

    Four years since this paper came out. We did it as a side project so the epigraph is doubly apposite

    We investigated the utility of vector-based distributional semantics for lexical norm imputation — and cautioned against uncritical use. Today I see people using LLMs to do this and our caution still holds: "Norm imputation can distort rating scales and can amplify rating artefacts"

  17. isn't a #logical #fallacious to assume some people -
    even when using logical formats -
    appeal for #logic?

    Just because someone says that they are right since they are never wrong - and that they use a fallacy such as this circular argument -
    doesn't mean that #logical
    is what motivates them to state their logical fallacy.

    A person might be logically wrong, yet feel "right" and alright by it.

  18. 🧵
    > The logical response from foreign leaders trying to boost their own economies would be to do as little business as possible with the United States and to look to charge a premium on the transactions they do undertake. This is largely the story of Trump’s business career. Because he had a history of not paying contractors, many refused to work for him altogether, and the ones that did work for him wanted to be paid in advance.

  19. @marcelias The logical consequence of recognizing "Republicans'" intention to go on rigging elections & preparing for their continued *electoral fraud* should be to challenge their legitimacy, entitlement & eligibility to run for any public office within the borders of the United States of America, right?
    A Federal Election Commission, the natural nominal task of which should be to evaluate the qualification of parties, be they political or insurrectionary, to participate in elections & run for public offices should well be able to distinguish between parties committed to free & fair elections, and groupings committed to subvert the electoral process violating customary rules to manipulate the outcome of elections to their own undeserved advantage, defrauding the electorate.
    Such a Federal Election Commission should naturally be empowered to disqualify entities & candidates proven to have rigged the electoral process by means of voter suppression, gerrymandering, disenfranchisement & other fraudulent methods before.
