Netflix convierte los anuncios en su motor central
En su cuarto Upfront anual, Netflix reveló una expansión agresiva de su negocio publicitario: el plan con anuncios ya supera los 250 millones de espectadores mensuales activos, y en 2027 llegará a 15 nuevos países mientras los avisos se expanden a videos verticales, podcasts y contenido en vivo (Fuente 9to5mac).
Netflix dejó en claro ante los anunciantes que el capítulo de la publicidad dentro de la plataforma acaba de comenzar. En su cuarta presentación anual de Upfront, realizada el 13 de mayo de 2026, la presidenta de publicidad Amy Reinhard lo resumió con una frase contundente: «Si los últimos años fueron para demostrar que somos un jugador duradero, este año es para establecernos como uno formidable. Hemos demostrado que somos efectivos, y ahora estamos expandiendo los anuncios a más lugares. Estamos listos para competir con cualquiera.»
Los números respaldan esa confianza. El nivel con publicidad de Netflix superó los 250 millones de espectadores mensuales activos globales, un salto de 60 millones respecto a los 190 millones reportados a fines de 2025, con el 80% de esos usuarios viendo contenido al menos una vez por semana.
El cambio más significativo para los usuarios llegará en la forma en que los anuncios se distribuyen dentro de la app. Actualmente los avisos solo aparecen durante la reproducción de contenido horizontal estándar, pero a partir de 2027 Netflix incorporará publicidad también en los feeds de video vertical para smartphones y en los podcasts. Además, la compañía está probando «pause ads» generados con IA y la inserción dinámica de anuncios en eventos en vivo, con un lanzamiento previsto para EE.UU. y Canadá en el verano de 2026 antes de una expansión internacional más amplia.
La expansión geográfica es igualmente ambiciosa. Netflix llevará su nivel con publicidad a 15 nuevos países que incluyen Austria, Bélgica, Colombia, Dinamarca, Indonesia, Irlanda, los Países Bajos, Nueva Zelanda, Noruega, Perú, Filipinas, Polonia, Suecia, Suiza y Tailandia. Esto eleva a 27 el total de mercados donde estará disponible el plan con anuncios.
La inteligencia artificial también juega un rol central en esta nueva etapa. Netflix está incorporando herramientas de IA y machine learning para que las marcas puedan desarrollar planes de medios y gestionar compras de publicidad de manera más eficiente, al tiempo que lanzó el «Netflix Ads Suite», su propia plataforma tecnológica diseñada para mejorar la medición de campañas y el acceso programático.
Para los suscriptores que principalmente ven series y películas a demanda, la advertencia es matizada: la expansión de 2027 es en parte geográfica, en parte estructural, y parte de ella podría no afectar en absoluto la experiencia principal de visualización. La carga de anuncios por hora en contenido on-demand no ha sido modificada públicamente, y Netflix ha insistido en posicionar su menor densidad publicitaria como una ventaja competitiva deliberada. Pero con un negocio publicitario que apunta a los 3.000 millones de dólares, la presión para monetizar cada rincón de la plataforma no hará más que crecer.
