I watched Star Trek when it was first on as a small child while my parents tuned in to it.
I am a very big Trek fan but I can't bring myself to un-cancel my Paramount+ subscription. I just feel they are too evil these days. Some of the worst corporate greed and cowardice.
Is the new season of #strangenewworlds worth it? Maybe someday when someone who cares about the franchise buys the rights and makes it available I'll watch.
I'm not used to not watching new Trek right away.

New Record for me: 2 minutes.
When they revealed the head injury, I started frowning, and as soon as the word "shuttle accident" were uttered, I turned it off. I don't care what the reveal is. Whatever the NEXT episode is, should've been inserted between e5 and e6.
The SNW writer's room is really understaffed.

CW: Strange New Worlds season 4 IMDB ratings
Strange New Worlds has broken its record for its worst-rated episode (according to IMDB users) four times out of the last five episodes, a remarkable, infamous feat.
S1.E8 The Elysian Kingdom was the worst rated episode (6.2 of 7,600 votes) of the series until this season.

I really had to force me watch the whole thing -.-
I liked Sybok. I liked the end with Juliet. I liked that they finally address that they all need way, waaaay more emotional support and therapy.
But the whole "Soap Opera" cliché did not work for me.

Why does every other episode of Star Trek #StrangeNewWorlds this season have to be a gimmick?
So much of the series has relied on gimmicks.

CW: Strange New Worlds 4x07 - Chronitons
I don't know if this is a 'good Star Trek episode', but I laughed my ass off for most of it.
Oh my god: Sybok and Spock being twins both played by Ethan, space madness and that zoom in Ortegas' raised eyebrow. All the camera movements and stuff. Again, not good STAR TREK, but entertaining as fuck. And maybe the first time I've actually liked one of these "the cast really had fun doing it, at least"-type episodes.
Couple notes, though...
- So we've gone from the subtle on-screen suggestion that Trelane might be a Q (by having DeLancie voicing the parent in that prior SNW episode), to basically canonizing it directly, given the Q in the Q judges robes along side him. (AFAIK, those robes are supposed to be WW3-era Earth judge clothing, but I guess we've forgotten that.)
- Trelane brings very little to this, outside of causing the soap opera issue. Did they only have half a day of access to the actor, or something? ("Cue the credits" -- very subtle.)
- Ethan playing Sybok was fucking HILARIOUS. Holy shit. Hands down, my favorite thing from this.
- If this was filmed at a higher framerate, this would have crushed it.
- The final scene with Anson was such a gut punch. 😭
- I initially felt the episode sagged a bit in the middle when Pike and Uhura are talking at the bar. I wasn't really paying attention to what she was saying, because I assumed ALL OF THIS was fakery. Fully made up stuff. Like "I am your daughter", etc. So when they started spilling real stuff (M'Benga), I realized I was purposely ignoring all of this real character stuff going on with Uhura. A second viewing will go differently, I imagine, armed with that knowledge. :P
I think since I've written off the rest of the series, more or less, I'm less concerned about Yet Another Gimmick Episode this time around, yet mostly because I, personally, found it fucking hilarious. (And by extension, gives me appreciation for those of you who enjoyed The Puppet Episode.)
Fucking Sybok. I knew he was going to be in this, but I wasn't ready for HOW they were doing it. That's amazing...

Even though as an Empath personality type I despise the #SoapOpera medium for its notorious emotional immaturity and reliance on shallow-thrill-driven manipulation rather than live up to the depth of human emotion that it purports to explore, #StarTrekSNW found a good balance in today’s new episode, S4 E07, “Like Chronitons Through the Hourglass” between using it as a lens and winking at it. That’s not an easy balance to pull off without going full ironic tragedy. Every moment was hilarious and wistful, no matter how emotionally profound the scene. It would have been so easy to fall into an insincere-mockery, but they didn’t. They pulled it off.

This is a minor gripe of mine, but as a game conservationist Starfleet Academy will be the second of the new batch of Trek shows that will make researching the 90's era Interplay games more of a pain.
Any search for ST: New Worlds is now flooded by results for Strange New Worlds; and now the same is already happening with Starfleet Academy, which happens to be one of my favorite games of all time.
