CW: CW: far-right extremism, fascism, political violence
The most disgusting thing about Sunday’s fucked-up election?
The far-right mob has gone completely feral. Their morale has shot up by 200%, and apparently they’ve decided that public shame is now an obsolete concept. They feel legitimate now.
They’re even louder. Even nastier. More confident.
I’ll keep fighting the bastards, of course. I’m not going to hand them the field.
But honestly? I’m getting depressed. Fighting fascists is exhausting, especially when they start cheering.
Still here. Still fighting. 🏳️⚧️💜#AntiFascist #NoPasaran #DefendDemocracy #TransRights #LGBTQIA #NeverAgain #Fascism

CW: CW: Far-right politics, fascism, AfD, anti-democratic rhetoric, election results
The problem in Germany after the Saxony-Anhalt election is this:
Every time we oppose the AfD, they will tell us, “But that’s what the voters want.” And then they’ll call us undemocratic for refusing to accept it.
No.
Democracy does not mean surrendering to the strongest fascist tendency at the ballot box. It means defending the democratic society in which people are actually free to disagree, organise, protest, and live without being targeted by fascists.
This will be a tough fight. It will be exhausting. And yes, sometimes it will feel horribly lonely.
But there is literally no alternative.
Until there is no Alternative. -

CW: CW: Fascism, far-right politics, racism, anti-queer rhetoric, threats to democracy.
The AfD’s results in Saxony-Anhalt are not merely “deeply troubling.”
They are the bill coming due after years of political complacency, denial, and deliberate-looking-away.
Centrists have spent years telling us not to overreact.
Not to “polarise.”
Not to call the AfD what it is.
Not to “drive voters into their arms.”
Not to make everything about fascism.Meanwhile, the fascists kept organising.
They normalised their language. They poisoned public discourse. They attacked migrants, queer people, democracy and the very idea of an open society, while "respectable" politicians kept insisting that the "real danger" was apparently being too rude about it.
Well. Here we are.
You cannot spend years treating an anti-democratic movement as just another flavour of conservative politics and then act shocked when it becomes stronger.
This is not happening because anti-fascists were too loud. It is happening because far too many people with power were far too quiet.
And no, the answer is not to move further to the right in the hope of appeasing the far right.
The answer is to fight them. Clearly. Consistently. Without apology.
Because fascism does not become less dangerous when we politely refuse to name it.

@StephenRamirez "Nervous breakdowns"? You kidding me????
From Jan 20, 2017 to Jan 20, 2021 the United States had its first very own Caligula in Oval Office.
Do everything legal to make a sh*tty sequel impossible!

@SteveThompson Bastards of democracy shall never be given any opportunity to abuse democracy in order to destroy democracy.
"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."

@tultican @cynblogger Know your *Radical Republicans*, which would equate to today's Dems.
"The Radicals at first admired [Andrew] Johnson's hard-line talk. When they discovered his ambivalence on key issues by his veto of Civil Rights Act of 1866, they overrode his veto. This was the first time that Congress had overridden a president on an important bill. The Civil Rights Act of 1866 made African Americans United States citizens, forbade discrimination against them and it was to be enforced in Federal courts. The Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution of 1868 (with its Equal Protection Clause) was the work of a coalition formed of both moderate and Radical Republicans."
Whereas today's "Republicans" could easily be labeled as sworn neo-confederate enemies of Radical Republicans of (President, lawyer & liberal American) Lincoln's & Reconstruction times.

@heidilifeldman @GregSargent Everything they're publicly saying & doing only further supports the call for banning such lawless, sociopathic & insurrectionary wannabe-wild westerners & enemies of the public, their Bill of Rights & Constitution from ever running for & holding public offices again!
Opportunistic lunacy must never become the law of the land.
