Longa de Sérgio de Carvalho, ‘Empate’ estreia nos cinemas
Exibido na 22° Mostra de Tiradentes, Empate, novo longa-metragem de Sérgio de Carvalho, conhecido pelo premiado Noites Alienígenas, estreia nesta quinta-feira nos cinemas. Com produção assinada pela Saci Filmes, longa conta com distribuição pela Descoloniza Filmes e estreias em São Paulo, Fortaleza e Poços de Caldas.

O filme, que tem como tema o movimento seringueiro no Acre das Décadas de 1970 e 1980, nasceu do encontro entre o diretor e a filha do seringueiro, sindicalista e ativista Chico Mendes, Elenira Mendes que procurou Sérgio na ocasião dos 20 anos da morte do pai, em 1988.
Filmado em parceria com o Comitê Chico Mendes, Empate aborda questões que vêm de anos no Brasil, e refletem até hoje como o país lida com o extrativismo, especialmente durante o governo de Jair Bolsonaro e as consequências desse momento que são enfrentadas até hoje.
“Ela gostaria muito de fazer um filme além daquela imagem do herói, aquele Chico inatingível. E conversando com ela, sugeri um filme sobre os companheiros do Chico, como essas pessoas estão 20 anos depois, se a luta valeu a pena e tudo mais. Conseguimos executar quase 10 anos depois. O longa foi filmado justamente quando se completaram 30 anos, em um momento que o Brasil estava passando ali uma turbulência política”, explica o diretor.
Nascido no interior de SP, formado no Rio de Janeiro, e radicado no Acre há mais de 20 anos, Sérgio frequenta a Reserva Extrativista, Chico Mendes, e teve a oportunidade de conhecer os companheiros do Chico, com quem criou laços nesse período. “Sempre pesquisei essa história, porque é uma história muito forte, muito desconhecida no Brasil, e essas pessoas são incríveis. Então, estar sentado com essas figuras sempre é um motivo de estar aprendendo alguma coisa nova, estar escutando a relação que eles têm com a floresta, a capacidade de organização”.
A pesquisa feita por Beth Formaggini, que assina o roteiro com Sérgio, e trouxe sua vasta experiência no gênero, além de ajudar a organizar o material coletado ao longo das pesquisas e filmagens. Já a montagem é assinada por Lorena Ortiz. “A gente encontrou muito do filme na montagem, tinha muitos caminhos que o filme poderia ir, teve muito material que não entrou também. E a Lorena, com a sua sensibilidade, encontrou uma narrativa na montagem do filme. A gente foi entendendo que tinha que ter alguns personagens que conduzissem a história até o conflito principal”.
Empate aborda questões que vêm de anos no Brasil, e refletem até hoje como o país lida com o extrativismo, especialmente durante o governo de Jair Bolsonaro e as consequências desse momento que são enfrentadas até hoje.
Hoje, a reserva extrativista Chico Mendes está passando por diversas ameaças de projetos de leis que querem diminuir o seu tamanho, a invasão de fazendeiros, latifundiários, de outros estados, principalmente de Rondônia, que estão chegando com uma cultura completamente diferente a extrativista, causando choque na reserva, choque cultural e assim provocando desmatamento absurdo, existe um antes da reserva e um pós-reserva depois do Bolsonaro no poder. A situação está bem delicada, bem crítica e junta-se tudo isso ainda à questão das mudanças climáticas. Os moradores da reserva tiveram dificuldade de água, que é uma questão muito inédita quando a gente pensa em Amazônia.
Como diz o diretor, o longa, filmado em 2018, “captura aquele momento que o ovo da serpente estava para eclodir”. “O filme para mim, ele é um chamado à luta. A partir das histórias e memórias desses companheiros que enfrentaram tanta coisa, enfrentaram os latifundiários, um sistema que estava completamente contra eles, a polícia, a política, o poder econômico, e eles existiram, lutaram e avançaram, e a gente vê nesses personagens do filme, esse chamado à luta, chamado à organização o tempo todo. Eu acho que o Empate, além de trazer a história desses companheiros do Chico Mendes, do próprio Chico Mendes, ele nos convida a resistir e lutar, sempre contra o avanço de qualquer forma de opressão”.

Looks like the open-source application firewall Portmaster has been acquired by the VPN provider IVPN.
I have tried out Portmaster in the past, it worked quite well. It is GPL licensed and will hopefully stay that way. But in my experience, an acquisition of a widely used open-source tool usually leads to a non-foss license change down the line, let's hope that doesn't happen here... there are no indicators of that happening other than my own cynicism. But my cynicism has been well-fed over the last years by corporations acquiring and enshittifying previously open-source projects. Maybe IVPN is different, I know nothing about them.
