🧵 So, #WindowsVST via #LinVST on #UbuntuStudio #Linux with #Nvidia graphics blacking out… what to do?
Well, eventually the obvious to the Linux nerd: Use a recent version of #Yabridge instead of the oudated LinVST wrapper.
I didn't make the move earlier because I didn't have to. Now I did.
Know what's really good with #Ardour and #Mixbus? They still find my Windows #VST plugins even after the switch. I rescan my plugins, and all my projects still work, because these DAWs somehow reference the plugins in a clever way. I have observed this earlier, even when copying projects between operating systems, the plugins still are correctly there in my projects in Ardour. (Of course, one must have the plugins installed on each computer/OS.)
Most Windows plugins I run are 32bit still. Old and good stuff. Not a problem with Yabridge / #Wine on Linux.
So, this took me about an hour to fix, but now things should be settled again for a while and for more #LinuxProAudio #Recording.

So, testing plugins on occasion, I found out that my #Linux #UbuntuStudio 24.04 does not run #WindowsVST any more.
It just doesn't work no more. I mean, the VSTs do run, but the GUIs are all not useable.
This might be due to a switch to #Nvidia graphics, which I had hoped to solve a problem with #Lightworks, which it didn't.
So basically, I can't do audio production any more, because I need #Voxengo #Elephant and #Fabfilter.
There is no mouse pointer in Windows #VST gui windows. Some windows are just plain black. Of plugins I have been using literally for over a decade.
Other #Wine applications do run with GUI. I'm using #LinVST, which used to work well for years. (And still on #X11, no #Wayland)
I'm screwed. Either I will be able to solve this somehow, or I can't accept production jobs.
This wouldn't have happened on macOS, I must say… as a person doing recording on Linux for 20 years now, including a couple of full-blown album releases.

Randbemerkung zum navi-losen #Transporter, in dem Fall #Maxus #Deliver9:
Nach quasi jahrzehntlanger Verweigerung von #Smartphone|s erst vorgestern auf #Android ohne #GoogleKonto umgesattelt habend, musste ich also heute morgen um fuckin’ 6 Uhr mein Bauarbeiterhandy anweisen, mittels #GoogleMaps meinen Standort ständig an Google zu verpetzen, da mir nix anderes übrig blieb zwecks des automatischen Navigierens.
Google Maps die Berechtigung wieder wegzunehmen ist mühselig, so bleibt nur, den „Standort“ zu deaktivieren in den globalen Einstellungen… blöd für andere Apps, wie z.B. wolkenlose GPS-Tracker beim Wandern…
Im eigenen Dienstfahrzeug habe ich ein #Garmin #Navi, das saugt auch irgendwie. Aber es erzählt niemandem, wo ich hinfahre. Und via Rundfunk kriegt es die Verkehrshindernisse sogar ohne Internet mit.
Mein altes #BeckerNavi war jedoch viel besser, gute Routen, superschnelle Berechnung von Alternativen bei verpasster Abbiegung und geilere Stimmen… aber Becker ist ja leider pleite gegangen.

@bertrik @revspace @bert_hubert The other thought on this is that - in Ontario - the base #NuclearPower contribution is essentially static. #HydroelectricPower goes up and down a bit but never drops below a certain (large) amount, gas fills in around wind and solar to make up for demand variance.
I may add to this #dataviz (and hardware version) a bar which shows generation as a fraction of total generation capacity (or maximum over 30 days, or …). -

Für das durchaus recht bekannte lokale #Festival, das nur eine Dachorganisation ist, habe ich mit meinem experimentellen Musikprojekt nun #PayToPlay gewählt.
Fühlt sich hart blöd an.
Leider aber auch: Bei #Booking-Versuchen im ganzen Ländle und darüber hinaus keinerlei Antworten. Es wird voraussichtlich unser einziger Gig dieses Jahr sein.
Ich bin leider ein Niemand und nicht in den richtigen Kreisen anerkannt. Das Inhaltliche ist dabei völlig zweitrangig.
Dem Publikum gefällt's dann schon, das ist nicht das Ding.
