So, testing plugins on occasion, I found out that my #Linux #UbuntuStudio 24.04 does not run #WindowsVST any more.
It just doesn't work no more. I mean, the VSTs do run, but the GUIs are all not useable.
This might be due to a switch to #Nvidia graphics, which I had hoped to solve a problem with #Lightworks, which it didn't.
So basically, I can't do audio production any more, because I need #Voxengo #Elephant and #Fabfilter.
There is no mouse pointer in Windows #VST gui windows. Some windows are just plain black. Of plugins I have been using literally for over a decade.
Other #Wine applications do run with GUI. I'm using #LinVST, which used to work well for years. (And still on #X11, no #Wayland)
I'm screwed. Either I will be able to solve this somehow, or I can't accept production jobs.
This wouldn't have happened on macOS, I must say… as a person doing recording on Linux for 20 years now, including a couple of full-blown album releases.

Das ist übrigens das erste Video, das ich mit #DavinciResolve für Social Media gemacht habe.
Ganz hohles Gefühl im Bauch… nach vielen Jahren #Lightworks #NLE, das wegen einem seit über einem Jahr nicht behobenen Bug für mich nicht mehr schon lange nicht mehr richtig nutzbar ist. Ist das nun der Abschied?
Also lerne ich einiges nochmal neu.
Leider gibt's nicht so viele Optionen unter #Linux, was #Video angeht.
Und nein, weder Kdenlive noch Blender spielen meine Footage überhaupt richtig ab auf meinem Rechner, ich hab das Thema hier ja bereits vor längerem mal totgeschlagen.
(Liebe 2000%-Nerds: Wer jetzt #ffmpeg sagt, riskiert den atomaren Endzeit-Plonk. 🤪 )
Die Hoffnung stirbt natürlich zuletzt, dass #LWKS nochmal die Kurve kriegt.

#Video editing going nuts…
#Blackmagic has released their #DavinciResolve 21 #NLE… new feature includes an #AI face reshaper, and a #voice cloning AI that can imitate any original voice with just 10 minutes of audio training data.
So, deep fakes within minutes? Easy with #Resolve.
Don't know what to think of this. It's one of two professional NLEs for #Linux… and the other one, #Lightworks, is in a terrible state currently, hopefully it will survive.

I am still trying out different #video #editors whenever I have to do some editing. After having had good experiences with #pitivi in the past, I recently tried #davinciresolve in a #distrobox container. Yesterday, I took a look at #lightworks, which, among the commercial options, can be installed refreshingly easily as a #flatpak. #linux

My journey to #Linux continues. Alas, I have hit a (major) blocker :( Trying to install and run #DaVinciResolve on #Fedora41 fails because of some library changes (zlib). Fiddled around a bit, but no luck yet. It either fails to run or it just doesn´t install. Tried #Lightworks, great performance, but I don´t think it´s my cup of tea. And the #Blender VSE, while heavily improved, is by no means something I could use for every day video editing. Too much is (still ;)) missing.

Tag 2, an dem ich anstatt produktiv #Video zu #schneiden unter #Linux mich damit beschäftige, wie ich die Bugs des #NLE #Lightworks umschiffen kann.
Man fühlt sich ziemlich einsam damit, denn die #Nerds schlagen einem dann so irre Dinge vor, wie #Blender für #Videoschnitt zu verwenden, oder #kdenlive, und wenn ich dann nach bestimmten #Features frage, die ein #Profi einfach braucht, kriege ich gesagt #ffmpeg könne das bestimmt auf der Kommandozeile.
Das ist wohl ein Grund, warum sich #FOSS im Bereich Medien und Kreativ nicht durchsetzt: Die Nerds verstehen einfach die #Bedarfe nicht, weil sie immer nur AN ihrem Rechner arbeiten, aber nie MIT ihrem Rechner. (#Ardour ist wohl die große Ausnahme.)
Und klar gibt es tausend freie #Tools und #Plugins, die irgendwas können, aber leider können deren #Entwickler weder sehen noch hören, was ein Video- oder Audioprofi sehen und hören kann.
